From a spectator's point of view, I've always enjoyed crazy nicknames and mascots painted on race cars. I especially like the old school, engine-turned lettering and mod-style paint schemes. Do you guys think these paint schemes are tacky or cool? I'm dreaming of the day my car hits the track and how it might look. :3gears: :Comp:
I like the vintage racers and the nicknames of a few cars. I like these cars: Coin Operated, Scrap Iron Screamer, and Little Joe.
I like.... "The Exterminator." It was my Uncles dragster in the 60's and 70's. Let me see if i have a pic.
I have 2 all time favorites....."Coin Operated" is so fitting for a Racecar & here at the local track there is a Camaro called "Comin' Unglued" But I mostly like solid paint jobs w/o lettering.....No one expects mid 9's when they see my car with the little tires, exhaust, and plain paint.
My favorite was "Nobody's Fool" It was a sinister looking black 69 GS race car. I remember it having black bumpers as well. I forget the name of who owned it. I always thought that was a cool name for a race car. Anyone have a pic of it?
His name is Dave Mongeon and he still has the GS, although he defected over to the "Little Buick Racecar" craze that's sweeping the Buick world and built himself a Skyhawk. ET- 8.11. Coolness level - Way Down! Somwhere in my archives I have a picture of me racing (and beating) "Nobody's Fool" at the GS Nats back around '94. I'll try and dig it up.
I'm with Jason - I love the name "Nobody's Fool". Very appropriate for all the crap we put up with from the Brand X'rs for runnin' a Buick! "Coin Operated" ranks up there too. Personally, I like the names with all-out race cars. :TU:
When I purchased my car it was painted a medium blue and was named "Blew-By-You". Not bad but I prefer cool looking paint schemes. Take Care
Come on Dan, it can't be that bad. Mine says "Guaranteed To Start" :Brow: In fact that's what GTS stands for ou: D.
My problem with naming my car is that the names I'd like to use are/were taken already. I think a fitting name for my car would be "Blue Thunder", like the helicopter in the Roy Sheider movie. Unfortunately, Jerry Caminito used that name on his Top Fuel Funnycar some years back. There was a guy named Tim Kelso here in NJ who raced a black '70 Stage1 back in the eighties. His car was named "Total Obsession". That would be a perfect name for my hog, since it's all I ever think about. Once again, too bad it's taken. :ball: I'm not the most creative guy when it comes to stuff like that. I should probably start my own poll on the board. Some of you guys are pretty sharp! Maybe you'd come up with something good. As far as wild paint schemes are concerned, other than the name of the car painted down the side, I'm not into it. Just too conservative when it comes to that sorta thing. Hence, the plain blue on my car. o No:
Ok maybe I'm just tired, but why not just mix the 2 names up Doug, ya know like Blue Obsession or Total Thunder o No: Beth
On rare occaisions I like the names, but usually they sound pretentious. As far as mascots, I like them a little more than names, but not much. On the other hand, I really like creative paint schemes.
I always enjoyed seeing Lawrence Conley's TWEAKED (and now Tweaked II)!!! :bglasses: :TU: I don't care if it was 'only' a V6!! :Brow:  Gotta give mention to GreatScat also....very recognizable car!!
I like some of the old school names. Not just in the Buick world. Hard to argue with the old ''Ramchargers'',''Old Reliable'', Mo-town Missile'', or ''White Winged Warrior''. I think the nicknames sometimes give a car character. For example: ''Insufficient(sp) Funds''. How about a check(made out for race parts) on the car, with what looks like a bank stamp in red, stating the above on it ???? Hummmmmmmmmmm Later.............
Used to be practically every car was named and stickered but then "clean" became vogue. I kinda miss it. It was one of the fun aspects esp for kids. "Blast from the Past", "Obsession", "Rolling Thunder", "Exterminator", "Wild Horses", "Quarter Horse", "Pocket Change", "Untouchable", etc. Bruce JAGUICK "Bad Kitty"?
I like the idea of cars having an identity. I think it is similar to athletes wearing jerseys with their name and number on the back. Remember that "He Hate Me" jackass from the XFL. I don't know much about him but people still remember his name. I like the spectacle I guess. :3gears: :Comp:
