Back in the early 1980's, Buick ran out of the original '70-'72 GS '455' fender emblems and adopted (one of) the Pontiac style '455' emblems and sold the Pontiac versions as the official replacement emblem.

I had spoken to Greg Setter some 3 or 4 years ago and I recall the area code being from the Phoenix area. I know he said he was going to stop making them, so I bought some then. I also think I recall hearing that he was interested in selling the equipment to make them.

Ken... IF you have a desire to sell one of those sets you purchased from him... Keep me in mind ;).

You are right on the "455" emblem. Most I see are the Pontiac 455 emblem(s). The correct Buick one is the eBay link I posted. I looked at original paint GS 455's and searched high and low to find the "correct" repro's. That guy on eBay is the only source I have found (yet) that has the correct "455" emblem.

If Greg S was willing to pass on his files on these parts I would pony up and make them.

Nah nah they sold me the slanted 455 rocker emblems,..that are thicker on the bottom,.. nothing to do with the correct 455 buick emblems without the black area between the 4 and 5

I have two sets of correct NOS 455 buick emblems actually

This thread is quite interesting. However, I disagree that the eBay seller 85041 is the best inserts. Some time ago I bought a set of his that were old production and correct. Wrong - the letters are opaque. When I was finishing my car last year I tried him again as he said the letters light up. They still don't as the material is opaque. I compared the to the ones I removed from the car and the translucent area on the original are not on the eBay ones.

Those are the ones I found to be closest to original. Used them on the X

    What about those:
    https://www.opgi.com/interior-acces...h-1970-72-skylark-woodgrain-w-ac-s240150.html

I need some and the ones I had in my car didn't look correct. The front part of the center console is original and it's so much more quality where the repros look like a cheap print. And the Letters are not translucent...

but those I have posted do look more like 72 woodgrain...I think it's different from 71...

    Any Idea???

I would of thought all the vendors would of bought Gregs. He nailed it.
I held on to a set for 7 years, maybe 8. Then installed them last year, on a painted bezel.
Looks great, But not right with out the Chrome. Now I'm looking at the repo bezel. I'll need the same woodgrain to match my console. If Greg will be out, then I hope Briz takes over with the same woodgrain.

Somewhere, I have a set. Bought it back in the late 80's or early 90's. Would this be Greg's?

I'm curious also. Aren't OPGI's correct or decent?

Peter, I believe that most of the Retailers now offering these source them from just a handful (or couple) of actual Vendors that make the sets. So, you really need to trace the source of the product offered by the Retailer to understand what quality (and "correctness") you're ultimately going to be getting.

    Got it;)
It's just OPGI makes it seem that they make everything in house..
    Thanks Ken..

If not in this thread, then sometime back Greg Setter answered such a question (at that time) that he stopped making his die-cut versions because his supplier for the high quality woodgrain (correct weight of the product, grain and texture) stopped making the product and he was looking for another source. Greg's contact info is on this Board and I am certain I have his email address somewhere.
