Anyone done this? Need idea's on how you did it. The hood to carb distance is limited and I am looking to get some fresh air into it. Thanks Bill.
This is how I did it on my Wildcat... Works good at speed... not the prettiest or a direct ram air, but i can feel it's working...
Spectre makes a line of muscle car cold air intakes. I'm running this kit, part number 728, with the ducts routed to the firewall where it gets air from the cowl. I think it's only $150 or so from Summit or Jegs.
Read this for 1968 Buick Cold Air factory kit. UNIQUE and COOL. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...-To-Aircleaner-Adapter&highlight=firewall+air For a 1964-1967 you may put on upside down to reach an available air space, by simply curving the hose in the opposite direction. I moved my voltage regulator for clearance. Frank may still have some kits available.
I've got a set of those same ducts for mine... lol, just been to lazy to install em... Thanks for the motivation...
Andy has it down perfect.... as for motovation,,, how does 32 additional hp sound... and better gas mileage.... also check out my doc dual plane mod..... mo horse power......
I'm going to give you gentlemen a secret to running the cowl ram system. Get some blocks of rubber foam and block off the edges of the cowl duct at the fenders. This will keep the air from escaping down along the fenders. Running this foam on the street may get wet when it RAINS. FRANK
Gary - out of all the potential set ups, the 68 curved hose has always intrigued me - can you post a pic of how you set it up on your 67? Thanks,
Frank,,, the 64/65/66 skylarks had that foam from the factory.....which reminds me , I gotta put it back on when I paint....
Thanks everyone for the pictures and ideas. From what I can find Spectra and Air Inlet Systems, are the two out there. The scoops on the 66 are interesting. They look like they are from Air Inlet Systems, I wonder how well they work? I do not want to move or cut the 65 GS at this time to put a air system on. The only area that is open is the pass side front. I could remove one headlight and get cool air in. Need to fab a carb hat and then hook up to flex hose. Need ideas for the carb hat. Thanks Bill.
* Bigpig455 Look at the Buick factory blueprint on page 20 here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...-To-Aircleaner-Adapter&highlight=firewall+air This is a 1968 hookup which curves toward the passenger side. For older models you may flip over the hose to run toward the driver side as the air box is deeper on that side. * Buicfrank455: Would closing the fresh air vents have the same effect as stuffing foam into the ends of the airbox?
Thanks Gary - I was just looking for a visual on how it looks on a 65-67 car (going through the spot occupied by the regulator and that swoopy pinch weld I assume)
Thanks! It works pretty well. It also sounds pretty damn cool sucking air while you have the floor vents open.
:TU::TU::laugh: Do you ever notice a gas smell in the car Bill, I moved the low beams to the inside and have ducts at the outside headlight locations.
