My starter took a dump on me and my local parts shop sells a high tourqe starter for a chevy 350. Will it fit on my buick 350? I have heard that they are the same starters.

Yes it will! I just recently found two at the pick your part one off a 95 road master and one off a 95-96 caprice I tried both on my 430 short block no shims works just fine.

staggered bolt pattern common chevy 350 wont work.later model like the roadmaster/caprice will.except no "R" terminal.

the high torque strter they had for a chevy was the EXACT same bolt battern as the buick, i measured it. It was not staggerd. So will it work?

    Huh? A late model Buick 350 is a "BUICK 350" NOT a chevy 350!!!!

68-80 they made the Buick 350, what are you talking about?

What I'm talking about is that the 95-96 (Buick Roadmaster) has a 350 chevy motor. I was not aware that chevy made a mini starter for the 68 to 80 350 buick. We're not talking after market here. please show me a part number for th 68-80 buick better yet go to the parts store and ask for a mini starter for your car.
You come up here and the first word you say is (Wrong) which I have a problem with when I'm looking at the starter on my motor right now. Do a search under mini starter roadmaster starter or corvette mini starter from which I got my info. better yet go to the turbo buick sites under the subject.
You have a lot of people up here that take what is stated as the gospel without further research. If your not sure if it will fit just say I'm not sure. Not (wrong).
The question that Jeff5886 asked was will a (late model) high torque 350 chevy starter work on his (early model) 350 buick.

BACK OFF DUDE!! Sean is going by my advising him and others on the board that chevy starters and buick starters(stock, early model)are different between 350's AND THEY ARE! and nowhere does jeff say anything about a "later" 350.he askes about hi tourqe, which is not a designation on the later "PG" mini starter.we assume he was talking "stock",in which case Sean is correct.

the buick 455 starter is a hi tourqe, the buick 350 is a low tourqe in most cases, except the 1970 "sp" 350.the starters are the same except for the field windings & armature.they look identical on the outside except the hi has a copper sleeve between the solenoid & field connections.and to add confusion to that,in the 80's the low tourqe went to aluminum coils with the spacer.kinda confusing unless youve seen countless thousands of them:Dou: a lot of parts stores will pawn off a low tourqe for a hi tourqe application.usually wont matter on a small block, but on a bbb, they wont cut the mustard.

Well if you want to think like that then all the 70s Buicks that came with Oldsmobile motors have Buick 403s!!!!! ahaha

I have been useing the chevy starter for the small flywheel. I think it is 154 teeth? It will fit just fine. The same for the new gear reduction starter for the small flywheel. The bolts are straight across. It is very light. Use it on the race motors. You will like it.

Back off for what!! The first thing Sean said was I was (Wrong) I was right it will work. I know that there is a difference between the stock early and the late model starter so does Jeff He did enough research he found the chevy starter that will work and was looking for assurance that it would fit. looking back I was assuming he was refering to a mini starter. I cant see him asking about a big heavy early model starter. So how can Sean be right when we dont know which one he was refering to. I think you jumped the gun so did I.
Jeff I apologize for this wandering from your initial question. If this can help these are pics and a vid of the starters that I was talking about.

Your right, I should not have answered with "wrong". We are all learning things and I value your input as well as everyone elses. Thanks again for the input and I will not answer so negative in the future. Cheers, Sean
