Even if the car was beat they could have gotten twice or three times what the program actually paid them:ball: Matt
Who would be dumb enough to turn in, and what dealer would be dumb enough to take, a 2008 model as a "clunker???" OR A GNX for crying out loud???
This is astounding! The people who traded in the cars on that list are either political idealogs, or have their heads buried in the sand (or somewhere else).
My question would be, what dealer wouold be dumb enough to TURN IT IN? Happily give the customer their $4500 and keep the thing. I'm sure most of those corvettes were good vehicles also... ou: ou: ou: ou: ou: ou: ou: ou: :error: :error: :error: :error: :error: :error: :ball: :ball:
Well once the dealer has taken it, they have to provide a "death certificate". On the other hand, a smart dealer would have just given a $5000 trade-in allowance and re-sold the car for $25k or whatever. -BC
The smart dealer Is my way of thinking , That is what they would do , I have never Known a dealer to go into a deal with out making money , Giving the unknowing consumer or dum ass ( you chose) a 5k trade allowance and keeping the car for resale for a big profit , Yep that is a very real poasability
Do we know these cars were crushed? Or just submitted and, possibly, rejected? I think it's the latter, although I know of one Vette that was unceremoniously clunked.
The thing is around here all GN's are GNX's so do we know absolutely it was a GNX???? Most people really dont know what a car is they assumme its a GNX cause its black...
True. And if it were originally a GN or GNX, did it still have its original drive train? Maybe it had a Chevy in it! Whatever it was, I agree that dealerships are in the deal to make money, and they know cars. If it were truly a collectible they would have gladly given a $4,500 trade in and call it a cash for clunker deal with a nudge and a wink. But then again - there are a bunch of stupid people out there!
Theres also a bunch of lazy people out there who would write it off as a clunker just because it is their job to do so- they don't give a crap about what kind of car it is so they are not going to put any effort in trying to save something special. These are the people who show up to work ten minutes late every day, take long lunch breaks and never work a second past 5 o'clock.
GNX, Vette's, 08 cars and trucks, the list goes on. What a shame. The worst part is we were all participants in it. Even if you opposed it from day one, you are a participant because it's all tax dollars at work. Of those auto workers put back to work, how many are going right back to the lay off list shortly? You have to think that a large portion of the cars sold were people who would have bought some new car in the near future. They couldn't have all been dumb enough to have bought a new car just because essentially there was a sale, even if they wouldn't have bought a new car in the next year without the program? I think that one of the backlash effects is going to be a sales slump in the next year.
Here's a complete list of what was clunked I guess: http://www.cars.gov/files/official-information/trade-in-vehicles.pdf
