Anyone have thoughts on car wax? I used "Mothers" Hotwheels wax and while it looked great the first day, since it has not held up very well. Does anybody have any brand they like that might be better? My car has been a dust magnet.

I use either Meguiars or Carnuba (Carnauba?) wax at work. It works great and I have done all the family cars with it. Plus this new stuff I got smells really good.

Meguier's Gold Class - tried a lot of others and they just don't last.
Clear Coat safe and a brilliant shine that seems to last all season.
Some of their other products are great also.:bglasses: :TU:

gold class works ok for me. the shine is not that fantastic, though.:Do No:

anyone tried meguiars new NXT wax? supposed to shine like zaino, it looks pretty impressive. iirc it's polymer-based, too, so it should last longer than carnuba.

Never heard of the NXT wax...I may check it out though. Hey, I may not have the nicest of cars, but I can say they are one of the cleanest around. A clean car is a healthy car. (A clean car is also faster):beer

    3M

I used 3M wax on a *black* car that to the best of my knowledge had not been waxed in 18+ years. Took me almost 3 days (by hand) but I was thrilled at the result. I can hardly wait to do it again!! :ball:

On the red line radials I use Mop & Glo floor polish (as recommended by the manufacturer)! It absolutely has not turned the tires brown and does not leave a sticky/greasy surface for dirt to stick to. Or fingerprints! Just a damp, palm sized sponge and don't shake the bottle as that causes bubbles in the product. I have put about 8 coats on so far.

Do they sell Meguier's at the local Moron-Zone?

Also, anyone have experience with zaino bros?

These guys look more high-end. Just wonder about it and any other info on this subject. I'd really like a good show finish that lasts more than a couple days since it's so much work to get there. I might try the gold class in the meantime.

I use a regiment of Meguier's products. Nothing else will touch my cars.

I've used anything and everything over the years. Zaino, in my experience, is THE only way to go. Easy to use, brilliant shine, long lasting...

I have a black car and nothing looks as good or lasts as long as zaino on it.

Meguiars. It is the only thing to touch any of my vehicles. I've tried the Zaino and while it is a nice product, I cannot justify the price difference between it and Meguiars Gold Class. Zaino is also much more labor intensive.

    Re: 3M

    Patty,

Can you put the mop n glo right over the top of white walls or red line tires without them changing color or only on the black part of the tire?

Right over the entire tire-red lines and all. The tires will have been on there almost a year in May, and I have not seen any sort of bad effect.
Not a high sheen like some products produce, but stuff doesn't stick to it which I like! I just use a scaled down duster to wipe them off.
Don't worry if you get the sponge too soaked with it or it maybe got shook up and some bubbles appear. They mysteriously go away. It may take a few trips around to notice a difference. It is rather subtle.

    Everyone:

If you wax your car without first using a clay bar you are just wasting your time and money.

Buy the $15 Mother's clay bar kit. It will produce results that will blow your mind.

    THEN wax your car.

Ok, slow down......Clay bar first then the Zaino kit if I want to spend and work, Meguier's Gold class if I dont want to spend but I still want to work, No votes for Mothers, and Turtle Wax is out of the question....got it.

An interesting topic. I'd like to hear more about all your techniques/processes for wash and wax.
