Hey Kyle,do you have any pictures of those bad boys you can post,if you get a minute?

It wouldn't hurt to call the cam guy, compare pricing and see what he has to say. As for switching to go with that fellow, that would be dealers choice.(you being the dealer)

The custom cam will probably run you more $$$,the question is do you have more dollars,or do you have more time?

Custom cam isn't much more just a little. plus it will come with the lifters to match the Rockwall hardness, which is also a factor in cams and lifters failing. good luck

well i got it free so i could sell it prob and come out. my brother in law can build carbs all day long does for his race cars.

  9. Just my two cents on the push rods and head milling. I have run stock length push rods after milling the heads on a 350
.040 with no problem. This was with a 284 duration 484 lift cam as well. Not sure how much your milling but If you mill too much you may have intake fitment issues. I had the intake side of my heads machined instead of milling the intake. That way any intake will fit without having to mill it to fit the engine.

ok i have motor apart how do set the cam timing? im confused

You will need a degree wheel and a dial indicator to set the cam timing.

This thread shows how to degree a cam. The example is on a 455 but the procedure is the same for a small block.

What do you have for a timing gear set? Is it a multi key gear on the crank as shown in the above thread?

Did you get the TA 212 cam?

Our hyd roller lifters are around $350. The higher end solid roller lifters are around $600 and going up. We also come out with a less expensive solid roller lifter for around $350. Have had no trouble with them. Sorry for not having the exact prices.

yes i got the 212 form ta perfomance, the sad news is there is quite a bit of crank walk :'( there is a bit of play, and the timing set look like stock gears with a double roller chain on it.

and yes the crank gear is multi key it has what seems to me as 3 key settings

Can you describe the "crank walk"? I am guessing you have a worn out timing set.

when i pull on the front of the crank there is a lot of play. it clicks back and forth.

Sounds like a worn thrust bearing.... I would leave it alone unless I was going to do a full rebuild.

  18. End play should be around .003-.009 so it is very possible to hear it click when you pull on it. The only way to tell what you have is to use a feeler gage and check the play at the thrust bearing and see what it is. If it is within tolerance don't worry about a click.

ok noted about he the thrust baring, now what about the timing issue i was told if piston one is at tdc and i line the timing marks on the cam and the crank they will both be spinning at the same time, since i put in a new cam and what not is this true?

What may not be true is the cam timing!
If you look at the card that came with your cam it should tell you that the intake lobe center needs to be at 106 degrees ATDC.
That means that the intake lifter (Not the valve) will raise up .050" at 3 degrees BTDC. That should also show on the cam card.

I installed a cam this past weekend that was 9 degrees retarded when the timing marks were lined up.
I had a 9 key Rollmaster gear set so I was able to get the cam timed at the correct position.

Am I correct on your cam card specs?
