Looking at the pictures of my car from 1974, the rims look the same as those posted. I bought the car new in April 1974 when I took my pictures. Other than being 15", the style looks the same. They also had the same rim on the Buick Indianapolis pace cars.

    >>I'm pretty sure the Buick Indianapolis Pace cars just used a 15 inch Buick rally wheel painted body color. Here is a shot of one.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

I looked in my 1972 Trim & Color notebook/brochure, and there were 2 different sections that showed the available wheels. Interestingly the Super Sport wheel is shown with a different tire in each photo, and both are different from the photo you posted. Also, in the my '72 Color & Trim brochure there are several sections that were updated with stickers placed over the original words of the brochure to reflect running or mid-year changes. One of the changes was the Super Sport wheels, and it stated that they were no longer available.

I personally like those wheels very much. I'd really like to have a set for my '72 but I think I'd also have them modified to be 15" instead of 14".

Very interesting Gary - the fact that one photo says no longer available for intermediate Buicks and one says available for the GS (though that is an intermediate Buick) leads me to think that after canceling production of the super sport wheels in 1972, Buick held the remaining ones at their factory as an option for the GS only.

    Chris,

71 wheels are 14x6 and dark gray. 72 wheels are 14x7 and body color. I have a 71 GS 350 Conv. with the 14x6's. Was in an accident in 1989 and I bent a rim.
Started looking for a replacement and ended up buying a 72 GS 350 parts car with a full set. Was surprised to find the 72 had 14X7's. Found some more at the Nats. several years ago and now have 2 sets of 14X6's and the set of 14x7's.

    >>That's right - I forgot about the 14x7 - I think I had an odd one like that a couple of years back. Are you sure about the 72 super sport wheel being body color from the factory and done by a dealer or owner? I've only heard of them being the charcoal gray color from the factory.

Not totally sure about the 72's being body color. I was going by the set I had, and a factory photo. The set I have were blue. Could have been painted later.
Factory photo is a dark green car and the wheels look like they match. Again, could be dark grey and they look to match in the photo. The more I think about it, painting them body color from the factory, esp. on such a rare option would not really make sense. And what if you had a light colored car?
    That would not look right.
