Very nice Craig, excellent work. I wanted to do this also, but with a steel hood. I have the Skylark hood and wanted to have the 2 1/4 steel cowl scoop with the sectioned GS hood scoops welded in the cowl then to the hood. The problem is the steel cowl scoop is 24" wide and the GS scoops are also, actually a little wider to get the full effect. So I don't think it would look as good right to the edge of the cowl scoop.
have you checked to see if a hood mounted tach will still fit on or could you mold it in from the start? that would be a nice addition to your masterpeice. whens production i have something new on my bday wish list now!
Very nice the line for these just keeps growing I think if/when the bolt-on is available I'd be up for one. Jamie
hey....you just dipped your Chevy into my BUICK....hey you just dipped your BUICK into my Chevy...GM CHEBYUICK HOODS :bla:
I'll run the car at the track the 25th of this month and then start looking at a few little tweaks and start working up a new mold. It will take a little bit as I start a refueling outage the first of October for 60 days. They have us on 12 hr days, 6 days a week. Throw in an hour commute each way and time is tight, but I will work on it some when I get home and on my day off. I really want to see what I can get the lift off hood down to for weight. Then I'll start on the underside framework to incorporate the hinges and latch. If you look at this picture of my Skylark hood, the orange is close to what I will copy (unnecesssary holes have been filled after this pic) I'll blend it into the base hood where the orange ends. tt455, yeah one of the toughest parts was determining width. The Chevy hoods are narrower, but I wanted to keep the original look as best I could. idahoskylark, not quite sure on the tach, something to look at though in the near future. I'll keep you posted as I make progress. Thanks for the feedback :beer This is moving forward, but I'm taking my time to try and do it right.
I'm 15 hours in to my work day right now so forgive me if the stripes aren't a perfect match but here is a rough rendering of what a GSX package would look like with that hood.
Geez... and all I got was my balls busted because I have a cowl hood on my car and they all called it a Chevy...I think the idea is great.Wish I had the patience to do that to my glass hood...
Pat i have been waiting to see what you would post, and you did take the ribbing like a man:TU: Jamie
And just think, we can all now run our SP1 or SPX intakes with spacers and still be under the hood!!!
I totally agree! Thats a really good looking and functional hood, If i had the spare cash. I'd be nagging you for one
Yup Dave Shaker's 69 ..... Goes by Buickbuddy here and on the BPG.Takes alot of grief from everyone, but is a hell of a good guy!!
Boy a difference a few months make....I got all but canabalized when I posted pics of the Maggot with a "Chevelle cowl hood" on it...  I took it all in fun. Not only can you run a SP1or SPX,I also run a K&N 5 inch filter, but also a 1 inch Phenolic spacer and still have inches of clearance...Wish mine had the GS grates on it though...
that is really slick, and the fact that you made it from scratch. hats off to you. if i had a 70 - 72 i would be all over that if it came on the market, looks great.
