We've had a productive weekend. The original steering box, and the driver's side fender was installed. For some reason the bumper sits low on that side, and I can't raise it, we'll have to look at that later. It's starting to look more and more like a complete car again.
I've been trying to find an air filter box that doesn't need the adjustment ring to fit the carter carb. Now it sits too high to be able to have a hood over it, has anyone found a carter style air filter box that I could use?
I've managed to hide all the cables inside the fender, and below the back of the inner fender.. Trying my best to keep it clean.
Done.. Tomorrow we'll take care of the grille. For some reason the horn is always on when I connect it, any ideas on that one?
Looking good. As for the horn, it could be the horn relay or the steering wheel button. If you have the wiring diagram, figure out what wire is coming from the steering wheel to the horn relay and see if it's got power when the horn button is not being pressed. If so then the button's the problem, if not then the horn relay is likely the problem. Give it some taps with a screw driver handle or something to see if it is just sticky.
I've been trying to figure out what to do with the air cleaner that sits too high, which means the hood won't go back on. I would like to thank Carl Unitis for sorting that out! Much appreciated, thank you!
Next up to install was the grille. Quite an intricate piece that must have cost a couple of bucks to produce. I went with a black/chrome combination, wanted something a bit more striking than the original.
:birthday: :birthday: :birthday: First drive in a looooooooong time. Went to Mel's for some grub and an ice cream. Very nice to feel the suspension is all tight, the heater works etc.. Car feels solid!
So the air filter housing arrived, and unfortunately, it still sits too high ?!?! sigh.. The housing that came with the car when I bought it was most likely the original housing, but it had the bottom section cut out like a circle around the outer edge, and then the lid screwed to what was now the main section. This seemed really weird (and broken), so in the trash it went. This 64 housing looks a bit taller than that original housing, can anyone confirm this who has a 66 Cat/Electra?
I think the OE cleaners were the same , but Buick had them clocked differently as you'll see the snorkle point here and there depending on year. I'd suggest you get one of the wide and low cleaners from a '64 Riv as these look and work better than the big car cleaners-good luck
hello I was 2nd in line (behind you) for that '64 air cleaner from the original seller, as I have a 1964 wildcat and could use the upgrade. If you decide you do not need it, I'll pay you the last price he was asking (I think it was $45 plus shipping) and then you can use the money to go toward a low profile cleaner for your car. Let me know. sorry I don't know the answer to your height/hood problem, but at least my offer can get you the cash to try the next option.
Ragtop4spd, I am the orignal owner of the air cleaner. Kimson sent me a pm saying that you could send me the money for the $45 + shipping. If it is alright with Kimson, you could send him the money and we will split the total. Can you PM him to get the deal done and he can get him me.
thanks for the message. I gave that a thought when I wrote my last message, because I think you said you had sold it at a discount originally. In that case, I understand we would all want it to be a fair deal all the way around, for all three of us. I will pm Kimson, to see if the details work. If I pay the $45 plus shipping, hopefully the two of you can agree to the details; I'd like all of us to be happy. BTW, I have not looked over to see what other '64 chrome pieces I might be interested in yet. Sorry for my delay - work is crazy.
just wanted to let you know that the car made it to the previoulsy mentioned event: http://bangshift.com/blog/Event-Coverage-Source-Interlink-Von-Fink-s-Squirrel-Hair-Panel-Jam.html http://bangshift.com/forum/index.php?topic=21815.0
