I have spoken with the curator of the Sloan Musuem and discussed the possibility of the Sloan Museum reproducing full Buick Factory Assembly Manual for several years of the A Body GS. These would be full versions of the Assembly Manual roughly 250 pages and not the condensed 150 page version you can currently get from places like Millenium. I believe the cost would be somewhere around 35-40 dollars. An orginal one for 1970 sold on eBay recently for 500+. Please respond what year you would be most likely to buy first at that price point. Thanks, Mark Macoubrie
I just got a 1971 Chassis Service Manual - All Series. Is the assembly manual a different thing? Aren't these available on CD? Seems to me I have one on CD somewhere around here too.
Assembly manuals for most years are available now on ebay. I've purchased a few different years myself. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BUIC...m14QQhashZitem250297900021QQitemZ250297900021 Harvey
What Mark is talking about offering are "complete" A-body assembly manuals that have virtually every page included and are totally legible. Currently the ones on the market have tons of pages missing, with some pages being almost impossible to read. Duane PS. A lot of guys wonder where I get my info, and quite a bit comes from complete books like this.
The Chassis Service Manual isn't apparently very valuable after all. Following Harvey's link and a quick search I found one exactly like the one I just got for $20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971...oryZ6761QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
These are the same manuals I am refering to but the ones currently for sale do not have all the pages that a "complete" manual has as Duane has indicated. For instance the 1971 assembly has closer to 300 pages vs the 200 pages shown for the ones for sale. The clarity should also better on the Sloan version than some of the other versions that have been put out on the market. Mark
The Assembly manual is different than the Chassis Service Manual. The Chasis Service Manual explains how to repair item on the car or replace items. The Assembly Manuals show how the car was put together at the factory. Both are very useful in understanding how the car was constructed. Mark
69 and 70 Please... Eric / Oregon:3gears: Ps...Nice talking to you Mark the other night, I hope you got tucked in on time. Thanks for calling!
I'd probably get all of them if they were put on CD's, as I think a lot of others would as well. In book form, most people would only buy the years they actually have cars of.
The 66 assembly manual is about 3 inches thick. To have a professional shop copy it with colored pages and fold-out pages cost $70 a few years ago. Well worth it.
I'd be interested in getting a 1970 assembly manual. It would be really nice to be able to get all of the assembly manuals.:TU: Thanks for asking us about these,Mark.
I more than likely won't get a paper copy and maybe a cd copy. will the manual include the pre superceded pages as well? (good for determining early or late build information.)
From my limited research at Sloan it appears that the manuals do not have the superceded pages. They typically only have one version of each page. Mark
