I'm not arguing or disputing your views, and I agree with you about everything involved to build a car to whatever level one's goal is. I was only making the point that a car can be built on a budget, for a lot less money than some expect.

For this specific car, it was built by different car club members who offered to help the owner out with the base car he already had to work with ('71 Skylark).
One guy rebuilt the engine & powdercoated each piece during assembly.
Another guy did the bodywork & paintjob.
Another guy did the interior (custom underdash stereo box).
Everyone who worked on the car took pride in their work, but didn't overcharge him for the end results.

This car was built within the past 5 years, and won Best of Show, at least 2, maybe 3+ times, since!

Car shows are not always conspiracies to vote for Members Only cars, and his was no exception, as the cars that got trophies were voted by general attendance, not by favoritism.
In actuality, there was only 1 points difference that decided the winning car, between a $100,000+ '78 Trans Am and his '71 Skylark, and he didn't think he even had a chance to win anything at all!

I agree, which is why I usually disregard most criticizing opinions, anyway.

Fair enough, and congrats to your buddies for building an obviously nice car (I would like to see pics-not to critique, but it must be pretty nice!) and perhaps my judgement is off but to buy a car, rebuild it (and I mean rebuild it, not replace one piece here or there, etc) costs some big money. I still say 33K is low for show car. Then things go wrong or you want a new project and you put it up for sale and everyone with a POS rotting away in the back alley decides they have the right to criticize...

I've seen enough BS at car shows (of which I was not involved or entered) to know what goes on. I stopped doing shows years ago (except for my 07 world of wheels entry which I was talked into-and it was fun but the usual issues were there).

Helping buddies is another thing, I put in 20+ hours on a friends car last week for no charge (of course) and previous to that helped another overhaul his transfer case (no charge of course). I always thought that is what the car hobby was about anyway, but hey what do I know? :Do No:
