Hey Wheelz, I've got a home down there in Largo and the elevation is 25 to 30 above sea level, do you think I need to worry much about flooding? I know the roof and windows will be a problem so I'm hoping the insurance [ with hurricane coverage] comes thru, but the thought of flooding with no flood insurance has me worried? Larry.
NO, we are only expecting a 9 ft storm surge. I'm running my entire house with a Miller Bobcat 9 KW welder, runs my A/C and everything.
Check in, amazingly we still have power at 11:30 in eastern Hillsborough County ........but how much longer is a good question. I feel lucky so far and appreciate the electricity still working. The eye is approaching us right now and the wind has ramped up quite a bit. Can hear trees breaking in the woods and the front is flooding over now.
God watched over us In Bradenton Florida, 34205, our power flickered two times around midnight. That was the extent of it for us. Fortunately the storm went east around the backside of us and we remain safe and comfortable!
I am also near Bradenton (Lakewood Ranch)with no major issues other than no power (except generator) since 7:30 last eve. I have had a couple updates from my Park in Nokomis and there is some light damage but nothing substantial. I am going down to check the place later today.
Wind was howling when I went to bed last night at 11pm. Woke up for a snack at 3 and the power was still on. The wifes phone rang at 4am. it was her brother that lives 5 miles away asking if out power was out cause his was SMH. Ya its out, go back to sleep. Got up at 7. went out and fired up the generator. made coffee and surveyed the damage 1/2 dozen trees down across the driveway. Bunch more snapped of out in the yard. Car port canopy flipped over and the rolled roofing pealed off the roof of the pump house. other than that alls well
We survived over here in Rockledge/Viera (Brevard County) just fine. Never lost electricity, did lose water, but as of about noon it was back on. Be blessed everyone.
just got internet back. Power came on at 5am. Minimal damage here. Mostly branches down. So have been speding the day cleaning up.
The rain & wind are reaching us in central Alabama. The worst is supposed to be tonight, but nowhere near as bad as Florida. Wind gusts up to 50mph and 3"-5" of rain. Just enough to knock some trees on some power lines...
My former residence is in Nokomis, I heard there was not much going on there. Hope your properties are intact!
I'm sitting in the glow of candles, listening to WRFG's Americana program on the radio. Lost a tree and a bunch of limbs and debris. The local sherriff (next county over) posted this today... Patrick
Gotta start somewhere, so responding to the above is as good a way as any. The only time that I have ever looked up at the Earth was in a 300 HP Bellanca Viking. It's owner was the late Al Bolduc who was a Naval fighter pilot in WW2. He said that the Viking was as close as he could get to a military fighter. What a delightful airplane to fly! He hated the automatic landing gear though. The hurricane is now over. Our house is fine, and we got power back at 12:45 this morning. An hour ago cable TV and internet came back. A fair amount of tree damage, the roof of our metal-framed tent where we stored the lawn equipment came off (but may be salvageable), lost a few shingles on the barn, and the trailer is fine - but sitting in about 6 inches of water (it was 10 inches). A taillight was broken on one Magnum, and a small plastic part on the other. Also two minor dents in the roof on one - I think that one of those "paintless" body guys can probably fix both. I'll be cleaning up the yard for the next year (five acres), but I'm retired and need to do something. Murphy's Law - we have one 70' dead pine on our property. Three guesses which of our several hundred trees the hurricane didn't touch? Most stations still have no gas - one that did had longer gas lines then I ever saw during the '73 oil embargo; very few stores are open, and those that are have a very limited selection. I was able to get dog treats at the local Publix (very important), and ant/roach killer to get back at those #@**&?! fire ants that got me when I performed a (very) temporary fix on our horizontal mailbox. The Buchev and the T are fine. One last thing - I don't know if this is legal, and the moderators may edit this out if it is, but three months ago we had our asphalt shingle roof replaced with metal by a local outfit by the name of Kelly Roofing. Our roof and our house survived Irma without a scratch. Kudos to Kelly Roofing.
I knew once it hit the cold front it was done. Irma developed COPD 28-35 mph winds here in Alachua. No damage here just power out for two days. Mikey
Right after I posted my last reply here, the internet and TV went out. Then a few minutes later the power went off. Just got power back a little while ago. I ran 12 gallons of gas through a portable generator for the duration.
We are very fortunate - we were without power for only about 36 hours. Some folks in this area won't get it back for another week or more. Aside from lack of fuel and a very limited selection in the stores that are open, we are in tall clover.
