I just completed fitting a set of wheels and tires to my 67 GS. I definately was surprised with what size of rear tires that I landed up with.
After much measuring I landed up ordering a set of 15 x 10in wheels from Wheel Vintiques with 6-1/4in backspacing. I assumed that a 295/50-15 (TA Radials) would be in the neighborhood of 11.6in wide. But mounted on a 10in wide wheel the 295 tire was 12.5in wide and I was hard into the frame with the inboard side of the tire. I tried a 275/60-15 and I only gained 1/2in and had an 1/8in of clearance to the frame. I tried a 265/70-15 and gained only 1/8in in section width over the 275/60. I finally 'settled' on a 255/60-15 and now I have a tire that has a section width of 11.5inches and I now have an acceptable clearance to the frame of 3/8in on the inside, and the plane of the outside of the tire is inline with the rolled fender lip in the outside. That is about as good as it gets at least in my application. Kudos to the guys at Belle Tire for being patient with me! :TU:

    Thanks,
