    Nitro71455 Procharged 455 boost baby

    Called Procharger this morning.

The PS intercooler would be fine for a small block but big blocks require too much are for that cooler. Just as we figured after testing, the intercooler is not going to work

At this point, it was another 25 or 30 hours (that we didn't have) lost.. and more $$$ flushed down the toilet .....

No intercooler for Vegas at this point, and possibly no GS there at all.... I think it may be time to step away from the car for a while........

That's funny.... I acutally saw that one on Sunday..

Man Procharger is awful proud of thier coolers

I've done some research on the cheap "Bar Plate" coolers that are on ebay. There's a few guys on the LS1 boards running them (one upgraded from an ATI cooler) and they have all been very pleased with the coolers. Since these coolers range from 250.00 to 300.00 (shipped) I've decided to give one a try. I don't think you will find a cheaper barplate cooler around. Anyway, it's supposed to flow 1250 CFM and support over 800HP so it should be good.

I'll keep you all posted

Just can't stay away from the thing :Dou:

    THE NEED FOR SPEED!! :3gears:

    Next comes the cage. :Brow:
Then it'll be tube front end. :eek2:
Maybe coilover and four link. :)

    Movin' in with Chad. :spank:

    Hahahahaha

Naw... none of that. Plans are to get a "working" cooler in, tune it and leave it ALONE! other than a small cage (just for personal / passenger saftey)... Then it's time to hopefully enjoy the car!!!!!

New job, New baby.... doesn't leave a lot of time to work on the black car.

    Intercooler

Ok.... Finally got the new Bar Plate cooler I purchased off ebay installed and working last week.... It's alot more effecent asd is giving me 2 1/2 to 3psi more with teh same pulley.

New delima.... I pulled the distributer out last night so Chad could take some of the mecanical advance out of it (stock hei) and we found out it was junk... Shafts worn, busshings warn.... etc. 5 days from vegas....

Ordered a new MSD billet distributer from summit and a new coil to go with it. Hopefully there's enough time to get a good curve setup before Vegas comes around.

One another note. The QF (Quick Fuel) 950 Professonl series carb I was given to try (calibraded for my car by Quickfuel) works like a champ!!!! With no alky on in 3rd gear it holds a soild 12.2ish AFR Drivablility is also very good. Hard to believe since I only had to mess with the thing for about 30 min :Smarty: It's a very nice peice. The billet blocks have 10 removable jets for ultimate in tunability.... And the Price I was given on it (if I decided to keep it after trying it was VERY NICE) And I did decide to keep it. Anyway, hopefully there's some new found power with a good distributer. I'll update before Vegas if I can find the time.....

    This sounds awfull familiar.
One week to Vegas and we find a bad ...............(fill in the blank)!!!!
Tranny, driveshaft, converter, rearend. Oh these were last years.
Hopefully this year will produce more than one full pull run.
I still think you'll be scratchin' at that 10 sec. timeslip.
Good luck Rich as always! :3gears:

    Girdle..

I would recommend the halo girdle if you don't want to go to the TA Block girdle. I like how an open pan drains back to the sump and feel it keeps oil off the crank better. You would have to see a girdled pan to know what I'm talking about. If you go with a PAE girdled pan, I would get a crank scraper for it. If you go with PAE open pan with removeable sump thats a different story.

Glad to see you got an intercooler that works. THe MSD distributor has interchangable bushing that changes the total advance available. It a nice piece, you'll like it. If that motor will move the air and you can get it too hook, I would think 10's aren't far away. You just need to spinkle some of that magic picsy-dust on things so you don't have any trouble.

    Thanks Fella's....

    Great New's!

Got the distributer setup last night (it is a very nice peice) I setup up with the largest puck (least amount of advance). I dare say my HEI has been a bad peice for a long while. The car feels completely different now idles better, drives better, and runs harder than it EVER has...... I even picked up 2 more PSI with just the distributer swap :Brow:

I still need to play with the springs, and a tad bit of jetting but all and all (fingers crossed) it should be a good weekend!

    Timing

Be careful with that timing. I know you have that intercooler but if that boost starts creeping up and the timing is fixed(no boost retard), on a long hard run down the 1/4 it may cause problems. Eventually it will split the main webbing instead of blowing gaskets if something is not right. Not that you don't have it under control but I just want to see things go your way for a change. :TU: Good luck at the track.

Yeah... I had planed to start with a total timing around 26 or 27 degrees. With the cooler and the Alky spraying that should be more than safe... at 7 to 9 PSI (if we run that much)

Nice Car -- nice garage, too

    Rich

This is WAY off topic, but very early in this thread (like a year ago) several of your photos showed a very nice and very clean shop, complete with two-post lift on a to-die-for floor.

I am in the process of planning my Garage Majal. I would appreciate it if you could post a few photos of the entire garage: workbenches, tool boxes, floor plan, lighting (I noted the side-mount lights under the lift -- great idea), etc. You know what I mean.

    Thanx

Your car is beautiful and I am extremely jealous.

I'm ready for some unexpected news when you get back!
Like: (We never thought it would run this fast!)
    ( 10's - - Whodda thunk it!!)

I hope "the Chad" is going too. I'm sure he has somewhat of an interest in what you will run.
    Ya think????

    Good Luck!!! :3gears: :TU: :3gears:

    Thanks Guys,

Wish I had good new's about unexpect times... but I don't. The car didn't run what I thought it was was going. Air was bad and it was HOT! It's hard to run good in the dry desert in high 97 + temps. Anyway, here's a breakdown.

Off the trailer (car was running very well here in mid 70 temps) First pass netted 13.02 at 108MPH is all :ball:

Messed with timing and turned the alky down and ran 12.8's at 109
Turned the alky off and upped the primary jets 4 sizes (lean off the line) bumped some timing back in and went 12.6 at 110.

We (Chad and I) contiued to mess with Timing and Jetting after every pass (made 11 or12). The car bettered it's self after every tune change. The end result in the hottest temps of the day was........

11.89 at 115.71MPH with only 6psi of boost

The car ended up with lots of timing back in it total of 31 degrees. We had 97 octain in it and the intercooled boost numbers were not bad at all. The GREAT new's is the car was VERY consistant on back to back runs with the intercooler they only varied about .04 :TU: It would have never have done that without the cooler.

In the elim's I races Gorges Tub Chasy car. I dialed the car in at 11.92.
I beat him to the line by about 1 to 1/12 lengts and broke out with a 11.89. I was just happy to finally get the car back into the 11's

I have video of that race, I'll post it a bit later.

:beer That IS good News Rich :beer

    You Didn't break anything....
You got to make 12 or so passes
The car responded well to tuning
You prolly had lots of fun but worked hard for it

....and you didn't break anything !!!

I'd call that a successful trip to the track :beer
