The ringing sucks. Mine is more of a woosh. Like an air conditioner.

I've been in and around machine shops for 20 years. Had my hearing tested last summer, and I only have a little bit of loss in my right ear. Thought it would be worse.
The only trouble I have is when someone is talking from a distance or not facing me when they talk. Also the tone of my wife's voice is hard for me to hear, most of the time.

My wife still insists on talking to me from another room while I have the water going in the kitchen. I stopped getting frustrated over it and just ignore her. It would drive me insane otherwise.

I’ve got a raging case of tinnitus from chemo. I have to take it in stride; the alternative isn’t attractive. In the meantime, I do what doo-wop does; misinterpret lyrics.

A freaky thing about hearing aids if you wear a hat or any kind of glasses they rub when you walk and make a Captain Crunch Eating sound. Also I will never get used to the hurricane sound it makes while riding my bike.

When as described above I don't hear my wife, I'm deaf; when she cannot hear me, I mumble.

About every two years or so, I need to have my ears cleaned, actually only the left one needs to be cleaned. I slowly lose the high sounds in my left ear. I go to my ENT and he pulls out what looks like a caterpillar from my left ear, almost nothing in my right. I think that it may get plugged because I work afternoons and take a shower when I get home from work and then go to bed and sleep on my right side, allowing the water in my ear to run inside. My first ENT said that I should allow water to flow into my ears while showering to help keep my ears clean. My current ENT says don't do that, ears are self cleaning. Either way, my left ear still gets plugged. After it's cleaned, it takes about 2-3 weeks for me to get used to the new sounds. It's amazing how much noise your pants make when putting them on

Get an eye dropper and drop about 7 drops of peroxide in your ear and lay on the other side for about 10 minutes. Get one of those balls squeezers and shoot warm water in your ear after that over the sink. Pull up on the top of your ear when you squirt it in. Do it every few weeks. Works like a champ. Better than the drops they sell. Cheaper too. I hate the feeling when my ear doctor digs in for wax. Feels like she is going into my brain. You want to move away. Tough not too.

I dad was losing his hearing when I was young, turned out to be a tumor behind his ear near the brain. I would get it checked out.

Can you explain more how vibration can cause hearing loss. How could one protect them self from it. At my job in a truck and you could have a water bottle and can see how much the water vibrates at idel.

    Dave,

Do yours have adjustable custom settings? The ReSound brand does and you can turn the Noise Reduction and Wind Noise Reduction all the way up, which helps when riding in a convertible, and probably on a bike as well.....

I have high frequency hearing loss of @30 % in both ears. Also severe tinnitus in both ears-sounds like tea kettles screeching 24/7. The tinnitus has been non stop for 27 years. One too many KISS concerts....

My wife says I am, but I attribute it to my utterly good selective hearing.
