    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

Black, shades of Silver/Gray, or White ?

anyone seen the inventory on a new car lot ... or noticed the newish cars driving on the road ?

... I ride a train to work and pass several car dealership lots as well as multiple train station parking lots - being elevated about 20'-30' and being about 50 yards away gives me a good broad area shot of whats around today

and just about EVERYTHING seems to be a shade on the grayscale chart. :Do No: what happened to C O L O R ??

I remember hearing something about Fukushima disaster anticipated to affect car color availablilty but never heard anything after that

I am pretty sure I heard my wife say greys are in style right now lol. Also, I went to the department store the other day and the trendy section was a wall of greys. Go figure!

I remember in the late 60's, around 66-67 to be exact, everything was Lt Gold in color. I saw so many gold Chevelles, GTOs, full size cars, etc. that I got tired of looking at them.

So now everything is grays, well that's OK, just means everyone will leave my bright colored cars alone now.

    Alan, you are right.
I went to GMC dealer for a truck for my wife. She wanted red. They don't have red ones in inventory anymore because they aren't popular. So she got black.

A friend of mine (who also owns a 1924 Model T Ford that is his daily driver on good days) also wanted a red Chevy pickup. The dealer said that he couldn't find one, but he had the model that my friend wanted in other Earth tone colors. My friend said "No thanks - the Ford dealer has one in Red". It took the Chevy dealer about two hours to find the truck my friend wanted in bright red. He bought it. We did pretty much the same thing with my wife's new Chrysler Town and Country minivan. Ours is also a dark red.

I have been harping on the boring gray thing for years. My friend bought his car a new Chevy SUV and he told me it was some fancy color name. When I went to see it the damn thing was gray. Blah!! This is why I bought my F-150 in candy red.

The only place that produced DuPont's EFX pearls was destroyed there, those pearls are used in many of the modern colors and supply was very thin for a while!

As to your original point, the bottom line is that consumers are getting stupider and more boring as there is still a very full color palette out there even on new cars, remember to most people a new car is no more special than a new refrigerator....

I kinda like silver. The silver on my 65 Buick Special is anything but bland. There is a ton of metallic flake in the paint. I think part of it is the ease of keeping silver and gray looking halfway clean. I have a black 08 Impala as my daily driver and it is a PITA to keep looking good. When it's clean it looks awesome, but it takes some work. Most people don't want to spend the little time that they do have, washing and waxing their car.

I was just gonna say the same thing. nearly every car has a standard light gray int. My 88 Astro van had a red cloth inteior that just poped and it hid the wear well. I dove it as a work truck for 6 years and when I sold it the inside was just as nice as the day I bought it. Wife had 96 Astro with the gray cloth. After the first 5yrs of driving it was trashed.

the thing is that if u do not see the colur of the vehicle u want, on the lot, and the dealer cannot locate one, order it!

We tried to get our 2008 Dodge Magnum in Green. Chrysler said not unless we bought 20 of them. We got red instead.

The only Black car I'll drive is a new GN if that is the only color it comes in. Right now I drive a Vibraint Red G37 and my wife drive a Sky Blue Mazda CX5. Never will drive a grey or silver car or truck again.

White is always in the top two most popular colors for cars each year.

If you think shades of Gray, or Silver Grays are boring, you can always try 'Appliance White' !!

I thought long 'n hard before repainting the "JEWAL", - IMHO, the chosen color simply suits the car, as would several other 'colours', but I'm quite happy with that particular shade of medium gray metallic.

Remember - beauty is in the "i" of the beholder, or owner, as the case may be !! :TU:
