They are Steve, I will check the parts books when I get back to the shop, but I have a 64 and a 65 in the shop now, and I am 99% sure the front brackets are the same. JW
The first samples of laser cut bracket pieces arrived Friday. I spent most of the day yesterday (Saturday) finishing the jigs, bending up the samples, etc. As usual, a few of the features were "off" after forming and fitting them to the jigs. I'll make the corrections needed on the laser cut blanks an place an order for the first production run. The outer fender braces are actually the most difficult parts to fab up. They appear simple but actually have some very weird angles to them. I still haven't nailed down the prices. I need to price out and order several sheets of .125" aluminum and some aluminum tubing, which will pretty much dictate the final price. At this point I'm guessing that the fronts will be close to $250 and the rears will be in the $120-$140 range. I'll know more after the parts are cut, in my hands and after forming. I'll do what I can to get the price below those estimated numbers. I should have it all wrapped up and have parts available in a few weeks, depending on how long of a lead time there is on the laser. I'll let everyone know when they're ready and determine who's still interested. Thanks! Steve
I finished the jig for the outer braces and made up the first pair. Since they'll take up the majority of the fab work on these, I think I'll list them separately and only offer them as an "option". Attached a few pictures. I did weigh up everything for comparison; Front main mount (each)........Steel 3.98 lbs / aluminum .83 lbs 3 hole bracket (each)...............Steel .74 lbs / aluminum .16 lbs Outer brace (each)...................Steel 1.67 lbs / aluminum .48 lbs Rear mount (each)...................Steel 3.70 lbs / aluminum .72 lbs This comes to a savings of 9.84 lbs in the front and 5.96 lbs in the rear......Total of 15.8 lbs. Thanks, Steve
Wow. I balked at doing the fender braces because I knew they would be a lot of work. You knocked those out of the park!
Let me know where and when on the money. They look great! Are you doing the front fender braces that attach to the inner fender?
Jim, Do you have a picture of the fender brace? I know it's been a while, but isn't that just a round rod with flattened ends and holes in them? If so, that can't weigh more than a few ounces. Let me know. Thanks, Steve
