Alternator for 1965 Buick Skylark, 300 motor, non-A/C car

Hi, all, need an alternator for my 1965 Buick Skylark with the 300 motor, it's a non-A/C car.

When I put the Corporate Parts Store alternator on the car, oh, about a year ago, my mechanic had to send four successive units back, because none of them worked. He installed the fifth. Too late I found a thread here on the forum that said (sic) "have a Moral Human Being on the forum rebuild you an original, ask us how we know."

Now, less than two years later, my probably-rebuilt-in-Mexico alternator is producing less output than it should. So I'm seeking an alternator...rebuilt or core for rebuild.

In the latter case I'm looking for suggestions as to who here on the forum would be good to do the rebuilding, I remember seeing a recommendation in that post I mentioned, and I'll keep looking in the meantime.

It's my daily driver, not a show car, so I don't require a date-correct '65 Alternator, but since I'm going to this length I thought I'd inquire, not knowing yet how rare or common they are. Or, stepping back from there, any alternator from other years that looked the same, that would be correct with the exception of the precise year would be my second choice.

Have also read the "go internally-regulated" threads, and guess the guy I find who rebuilds my alternator will be ahead of me on that subject.

Thanks for any assistance or counsel,

    Jeff

Talking with another member via PM, picked that up before I got your note; will follow up with you if the current conversation doesn't pan out. Thanks, Brian. I just need a core, so if he doesn't have a '65 I'll connect with you. I doesn't have to be mint, just clean.

I have a core off my 66. It is an AC car, but difference should only be the pulley(single groove vs dual groove). Let me know if you still need one, will sell with/without pulley. I do have a good local rebuilder, as well. Thanks and Merry Christmas!

    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

Jeff, I believe I have at least one 300 ALT... Whats your zip so I can figure shipping...

Wheelz, thanks for your note...I'm already in PM conversation with another forum member, who knows I'm looking for a 1965. I have an automatic, and want the small diameter pulley, I believe.

He said "we are trying to find you 100691 or a 1100624, I believe", but asked me to check here on this thread to see if anyone knew the correct number or numbers in this case.

My zip's 15224...I'm going in order of whom I talked to, it's the member I mentioned, then 197064buickspec, then wheelz.

Dual quadism, thanks for the offer, I'm going to pass, as I'm set on a '65 alternator, now, as they're findable, and it's a core for rebuild.

have you got conformation on any part numbers ....

I have over 50 alternators...just went thru n listed em in a pocket notebook for later..

    for the early alternators

    I have a couple 1100693 's 5D27 and 5L16 37 amp chevrolets ...

    1100634 3D30 42 amp too early buick .......

even ifyou find a nice 37 amp your local builder can put a new stator in it and raise the amperage some 4u ...

    Scott

good luck youlle find one a month or so earlier than your build date. here

If wheelz or others you have talked can't come up with one, I have a 1100691 dated 5m13 (Dec 13, 1965). 42A is correct for a non-AC car.

I also restore the ones I have to what ever level is desired, functional rebuild to show. Or, I would just sell it if you have a local builder already.

Brian, thanks...Scott, the need's for 1100691, thanks for your efforts on my behalf, but I'll have to past. Wheelz, you're up, and I'll take MMS1's if you don't have one. MMS1, I'll probably have you do it, don't know anyone in Pittsburgh, and I highly value the forum connection, see: "Moral Human Being" in my original post.

    It will be "functional rebuild".

Jeff, I am in the Pittsburgh area. I have been rebuilding alternators for over 40 years. I can do whatever you want, from a repair to a restoration. I have the parts and equipment. I live in the South hills area but I am often in the city near the liberty tunnels. If interested contact me here or phone 412-563-2100. Mark

Mark, thrilled to hear from you...I live in Bloomfield, my Father-in-Law is in Dormont. Wheelz, you're up, I'll take MMS1's if not. Mark, if Wheelz's unit is the winner, I'll call you and bring it over to you. MMS1 if yours is the winner I'll of course have you rebuild it.

Thanks to everyone for the help, here...

Jeff ask your FIL if he ever heard of Stellar Generator on West Liberty Ave. That was my shop. I retired and sold the buildings a few years ago, but still like to putz at home. Still have the equipment and parts. If you need any help trouble shooting the start or charge system give me a ring. Good luck with the alternator. I'm confidant Wheelz or MMS1 can fix you up. If not I'll be here. Mark

I totally need help troubleshooting the start/charge system! Can you install it? Well, wait...I'm guessing you more than have the ability to install it, but I'll rather ask "would you care to install it?" Will totally ask FIL, who will totally remember.

Not a problem. Do you have a garage to work in?

I have a garage at my house...however maybe you can come by my wrencher, Joe's shop in Dormont when we get busy, here. Small, one lift, two bays, nothing fancy.
