    Plano?

Where is Plano and what time is the scheduled Buick event? I start at the University of Nevada Reno in September and am moving to Reno in July. Any further details would be greatly appreciated. I would like to go to a Buick event to talk to all the Buick nutheads about Buick's, parts, accessories etc. That would be awesome! I'm sure it's a lot of fun.

G'day Nick, EXCELLENT ride! I have a 72 Riv GS, in 'well used' condition. I've taken copies of your rear and under hood photos as your car sets the standard! Mine is Champagne Gold with white seats, doors and black dash and ceiling. Sun fried the rear tray and dash top eons ago :-( Cover them up in the Nevada sun (almost as hot as the Aussie sun B-P)

Hey thanks for the compliment from way down under! When I get a chance I will take a pic of the rear tray as it is in perfect stock condition believe it or not. Not even a crack or missing hatch mark. The old guy I bought it from had a makeshift piece of leather stuck back under the rear glass for God knows how long...probably since he bought the car from the factory. That is usually the first thing to go as that convex rear glass acts as a magnifying glass and you could nearly fry eggs back there. As for the dash, it also is in perfect condition except it has a strange spiral looking crack next to the "Riviera" logo about 2" long. Very thin crack and it is the last of my worries. When I get the money to do it I'm going to get an Edelbrock B4B intake, headers, MSD ignition new chrome valve covers and a nice chrome or stainless steel bolt dress up kit to make the engine match the edelbrock air cleaner haha. I will of course keep all the original parts for when I go to shows or ever sell the car. Again, thanks for the compliment!
    Talk to you all later.

    Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the compliment! So far I have had to find all original seatbelts for the lapbelts because the guy who had the car before me ended up cutting heads off of some of the belts and replacing them with different size and shaped ones with different buckles. It actually looked like he sowed them back together! NOT TOO SAFE :jd: Anyhow after much searching I found a place called "Speedway Automotive" out of Arizona who had all the original green seatbelts in a 1972 Riviera just like mine! So I ordered them all for about $100 and replaced them all after cleaning them of course. I had to have the rear quarter window taken out and had to find some stabilizing brackets and bushings and plates for it so it didn't rock back and forth (thanks to the Buick site I got it fixed). I put on an Edelbrock air cleaner and K&N element (lifetime warranty) but kept all the original stuff of course. Next will come headers, intake manifold, valve covers then the internal engine upgrades if I decide to do so. I just want to be able to revert my car BACK to it's original condition if I decide to muscle it out. Anyhow, thanks for the compliment I'll ttyl.

Man, I love your Riv!!!!! I had a '72 Riv Stg1...with a sunroof!!! Anyway, in response to your question on tires.....I found that I could fit 295/50/15's in the back....maybe alll around actually. Dude, did it look tough with those bigger tires .....handled better ( I did the polyurethanee sway bar bushings), Tokico shocks and headers ( with mild port 455 C118 cam, stage 1 motor), Thrush mufflers with an 'H' pipe crossover. Then, I had a 700r tranny put in, built up. LLLLOvved the deeper first gear of that tranny, plus the overdrive made my cruising rpm's fall 700 ( with 3.42 rear end ratio). Awesome.

    Nick Again

Oh yeah it gets REAL hot here in Carson City (100+) during July and August (hence HOT August Nights in Reno)...I knew they called it that for a reason :Brow: Anyhow, yes I DO keep it under a car cover when I drive it here and there and even keep the shades in the window and the leather sheet ontop of the rear tray to keep everything cool even when the cover is on. I keep it in the car port at the house. The LAST thing I need is for all my interior to start cracking and coming apart!! Sheesh that would be terrible! I really pamper this car. I respect the older classics (unlike most people) and appreciate their collectability. Don't see too many boattails around or Buick's in general for that matter. When I get the chance I'm gonna get those original seatbelts put in but I need to get some 5 pointed star sockets and time in order to do so. It is a real BEOTCH to get the seatbelt bolts out and twice as difficult to stack the 3 seatbelt ends and get the bolt started again. I'm glad you enjoy the car as much as I do! It really is a piece of work.

    I'm still here

Don't worry guys I'm still hanging around up here in the snow covered city of Carson City, NV. I've just been real busy with work and having to schedule college classes this semester. I think I figured out why my car was bogging when I stomped the accelerator at a stop. The timing was under by about 3 degrees...that could certainly cause a hesitation or bog lol! Anyhow with all that fixed I now seem to be burning alot of oil. I'm not sure if that's due to the winter season but I actually started hearing a knocking sound coming from the dash so I pulled over immediately and noticed that my lifters on the driver's side of the vehicle were knocking the valve cover :eek2: that can't be good! Anyhow if anyone has any ideas as to why I'd be burning a lot of oil let me know. I recently had the starter replaced because it was shot too. Anyhow, thanks for the concern and I'll be rivvin' it up as always.

    TTYL, Nick

I would pull that valve cover and check the pushrods to see if any of them are loose, or if your rocker shaft has come loose or something...:puzzled:
