Dave, and to think that in another thread you were complaining about missing a Duane tech session. I think you know enough to more than get by! BTW, it was great to meet you in person.

While Dave has the '71 Stage 1 tune-up stickers reproduced, I scanned my original non-stage 455 sticker and also the dashpot 4-speed sticker above it (01D build, btw, so maybe they transitioned earlier on the stick cars), had them cleaned up, and had those reproduced as well (much thanks to Yardley). So, those are now available.

And Duane, I noticed that PS reservoir sticker from a batch of pics I had on file taken of your car from a year or two ago. I saw it and thought, hmmmmm..... LOL Also, your car has a yellow stamped air cleaner breather hose. I have a pic of it, but not a clear one of the lettering. I guess I'll have to wait until I see your hood open next and snap a close-up!

As a further plug for Dave (and I know these hoses are tedious, so maybe he doesn't want the plug), the evaporative emissions hoses with the correct stamp are reproduced and also radiator hoses based on an NOS hose he has. It's a different stamp than the Caruso radiator hose, but is an excellent copy of the NOS hose and includes the PN, etc.

I had two round yellow stickers on the firewall. One behind each fender. The hand written symbol looked liked the greek letter mu. I'm assuming those were inspections stickers and that was the line persons signature, but don't know for sure. To tell the truth, I don't know if Nick put these back on, but it doesn't matter, at least on my car, as they cannot be seen until the fenders are removed- and that's not going to ever happen, God willing. I'll see if I can find a picture of them.

Finally, many kudos to Duane for supplying the chassis stickers as a set. Without those, we'd all be lost. It makes life a lot easier to be able to order up a set of stickers diligently researched and reproduced. And Duane, you have to accept at some some partial liability for the unnaturally freakish interest in exact stickers on our cars! LOL

I know it's all in fun but I just have to laugh about all of this.

Everytime I make another sticker I get a bunch of calls asking for them. When James Weinman got his 70 GSX finished I supplied him with the steering box, throttle cable, and valve cover decals. Then the calls came.

Now people will want the power steering reservoir stickers.:Dou:

Glad I never got around to making the ones for the brake cables, or the "Final Chassis Assembly" sticker, or the...................

Well at least you don't have to make those little round ones I brought up. We can just go down to the local office supply and get all we want! I just found another one of those by the way. Inside the the blower/fan cage housing of all places. :spank:

    Dean,
All joking aside, I (& Ken) always figured the little round stickers were from the Fisher Body Inspectors. They could be "verification" that the car shells passed the water tests etc.

This my round sticker with the hand written letters. One per side.

Oh, and how long do you think it took the line worker to scrawl "43 B" on my firewall? Now how many times do you think Nick, using reference photos of the original, put it on and took it off as it wasn't EXACTLY as that line worker did it? Now, how much of that scribble on the firewall do you actually see once the car is reassembled?

Ken, Thanks for the props. It was good to finally meet you as well and see your great car also............As far as the hose that goes to the air cleaner I have two good originals both off 71's and they have the part #S and arrows on them. I need to get off my butt and get the stamps made for those as well if anyone is intersted. I will need to use th Cars hose as only one available I think so the priece will be whatever it cost for it plus some extra to stamp. How many are interested??? My stamped lower hose is a direct copy of my original 71 hose hose so I believe it is very authentic. The upper hose is a copy of one type of NOS hoses I have. I have three all with different types and colors of prints on them. I believe I have seen the one I made on orignal cars as well and it matches the yellow on the lower so that is why I decided on that style. Duane mentioned to me there were about 4 possible styles/brands of hoses so whatever they were using that day is what you got. As far as the emissions/evap hoses.

    Dave,
My original 71 emissions/evap hoses are heat stamped, ie the stampings were melted into the hose when the colored stampings were applied. Are yours that way or are they ink stamped on the hose?

Also were the original hoses you looked at heat stamped as well? I am wondering how many varietys there were.

Hi Duane, Mine appear to be just ink stamped with Blue ink. I also have some from a late March built Electra that had the same blue ink. Mine are printed EVAP 5/16" etc.
Ken Lisk sent me pictures of his and they are printed with parenthesis
(5/16' EVAP.) also in blue ink. Somone else sent me pictures of same ones from their car but they are both earlier than ours. I have seen the type I think you mean on a 72 car still in a local junk yard. So maybe your car was at changeover. Looks like at least three different syles. I can post picture of mine or send you cutting from them if you like. I can also grab the one off the 72 next time I get there if you want it.

Duane, There are good pictures fin this thread. I guess Dave Tumas' car had the same hoses as Ken's and his was late. So change is tougher to track down. Not usre if you can tell if they wer heat stamped or not. I do not think you can feel the print with your fingernail so I am guessing maybe not?

    Dave,

Osborne has the correct 71 GS Big pulley Decal now, (the 725 one) as I had them make it here a few years ago.

I sent in an OE one, and he made it, and sent me back 3 of the reproduction ones.. the envelope is postmarked Nov of 2008..

I recall a thread about this, and was digging thru my desk drawers today, and came across the letter.. thought you would like to know..

Jim. Thanks. Good to know that. I actually bought a 724 from them at Carlislle last year as I did not even know they had 725.

I concur...as a kid, I worked new car prep at local Buick dealer late '50s early '60s. Round stickers, all colors, some initialed, were all over glass. Went thru boxes of razor blades carefully removing them...later on, doing warranty work, found them on radios, instrument clusters, heater boxes, cowl...anything body-related...

And those coveted build sheets/IBM cards...usually tossed on rear floor...to be thrown out...

Olds 442's had little capital letters inside as square stamped in blue ink on the firewall with a letter and number in yellow stamped next to it. I saw one like it on a Buick firewall at the BPG meet this year. I forgot to get a picture of it. Not sure if it was original. Anyone ever see that? Maybe it was a Framingham car. Duane told me lots of Old's made there so some Buick's were treated like Olds'. The indignity of it all.:Smarty:

Hey now, Buick's could do a lot worse than to be treated like Olds.

Anyway, plenty of Lansing-built Olds have letters-inside-of-squares firewall stamps, too. I've never seen any plausible explanation for exactly what each letter signified, other than that maybe each inspector was assigned his own letter.
