    Eric,
    From Dave:

    "Larry,

Please tell Eric that the 8140 needs the GM style 1.80 ohm NAPA ICR13
resistor or stock GM resistor wire, and between 9.0 to 11.5 input volts with
the engine running is correct for one. Accel 8140, 8140C, 8145 and 8145C
used to be made here in the U.S., and were exellent coils back when,
but...sometime in 2003, productiuon was moved to Taiwan (profit margin on
sales was the main reason), and the quality disappeared in them, this is why
the tech told him that the coil can explode on full battery voltage inputs.

And, that running one with the Crane system WILL NOT RAISE output voltage to
the coil, as the Crane system doesn't have the electronics and drivers to
pump the coil output up any more than what a stock set of points makes.

If it were me, I'd use these coils, all but one are U.S. made Andover coils,
the place that used to make the Accel stuff...

    MSD 8200 only
Summit G5215 Exact same coil as the MSD 8200
    NAPA IC12
All above are made on the SAME line at Andover
And a Made in Mexico coil that is of great quality and same specs as above,
    CarQuest 26189

Good as well are the Crane
    PS20
    PS40
    PS60

    Best regards,

    IgnitionMan"

Thanks Again Larry. I have 11.46 with the car running at the coil, but 12.40 with the key in the on position with the ICR13 in the line. I guess until I get one of the better coils I just need to make sure I dont let the car sit with the key in the on position for any length of time. I'll get ahold of the local Napa and CarQuest and see if either of them have anything in stock. If not, I'll order one of the coils.

I only went with the Xr-I so I could ditch points, the hotter spark probably came from replacing old, worn down wiring and points. Ultimately I'll do the HEI conversion, but unfortunately money flow isn't good right now.

Thanks again, Dave and Larry :TU:

The other half went towards springs that I needed desperately, and a matching seat cover, and a new carburator... Hence why cashflow is in the wrong direction.

This fall/winter, I will have an HEI Conversion :TU:
