Geez, I considered myself lucky to find a 72 GS 350 with power windows and locks. What I would give to have a big block GS with a 4-speed trans. Brett, please post any new pics that you can, I'd like to follow this resto. Awesome car. -Kevin

    Kevin,

Thanks for the kind words. I plan on posting updates through the board once the real dirty work commences which I'd say will probably start after the summer.

Not much has been done since these pictures were taken, aside from removing the grill and front bumper.

Hey Brett, do you know my buddy Eddie St. Angelo...he's got the dealership in E. Providence?

    Bruce,

I don't believe I do. Is it a Buick dealership? Has it been there a long time?

Yeah, it's a Buick Pontiac GMC dealership (service manager/owner). Used to be in Barrington. He drag raced GS's in the late 60s early 70s then went round D round racing at Seekonk and elsewhere.

Buick's are in his blood....he grew up at his dad's dealership.

excellant find Brett.. If your looking for inexpensive quarters contact Tony at poston, mine fit well and look good..but ypur main expense will be in the install not the sheet metal.

    New Muncie!

Brett, nice car especially the 4-speed big block! I replaced my non numbers (67) Muncie and comp shifter with a rebuilt from Pete Serio and a New Muncie. Pretty pricey, but is fantastic shifting, the few times I had it to the track I never missed a shift. They are sweet.

Like everybody else, I can't wait to see the progress!

    Dr Olds Crush that Mustang!!!!

Hey I wouldn't feel too bad at the amount of time that it is taking to get it done. I have had my Olds for almost 20 years now. Your car will really be a great looking car when it is done. That color really looks great on that car. Great bones to start with also. It is always good to see something like this end up in the right hands. That could have ended up in some hack's garage and ran into the ground. Believe in fate? Can't wait to see the progress. Keep us posted.

    Ted,

I'm in TOTAL agreement about Pete Serio's work. The limited time I drove the car, (from my buddy's garage to it's cave) the shifter felt GREAT!! Pete's very easy to work with and I would definitely recommend him to any one looking to get their OEM shifter rebuilt...

    Pat,

Generating enough loot to actually start a resto on this thing has become somewhat of a hassle. Just when I think I have enough to start, something else comes up...and you're right, I DO believe in fate. I still can't believe I scored this thing and the seller had NO idea what he had....whoda thunk??? :Do No:

    steve's 70 gs clone

Hey Brett, Steve Murray here. I bought that red 72 stage 1 off you! I remember seeing your current project car out back. That car will be awesome when complete. The red car was sold to a fella in waltham. He rebodied the car and completely restored it! I saw him and the car at a show and the car is mint! I did however pull the motor LONG before the car was even up for sale. That motor now resides in my mint 70 skylark(GS clone). The only difference is an edelbrock performer 850 carb (the one that looks like a rochester), and a 355 gear in the rear, as opposed to a 373.As you know that motor screams! Have'nt had it to the track yet? And this is five years later! BUMMER. The skylark I have was a 350 2 barrel car, plain jane. It came from the Framingham, Ma. plant with a FACTORY 12 bolt non posi rear end!!! Ever heard of such a thing?? ANYONE?? I have seen one other GS built at same plant with a 12 bolt, and have heard of others, no kidding. Anyway my car now has GS hood and grill, buckets, console, tilt,ps,pdb, sport mirrors, rocker mouldings etc. This car was stripped to bare metal, and wears ALL of its original sheet metal, even the original battery tray!!!!! Forgot to mention 1/1/4 front sway bar rear sway bar , boxed control arms, and suspension reinforcing bars! Car is black. This car runs and looks like a BUICK should! I will try to post some pics if possible. I am fairly new to the computer , if you can't tell? Well I don't know how far along you are on your project , but I hope maybe I might have inspired you a little! Later Steve Murray. ph#(978)658-2247 beave70@comcast.net

    It's about time!

    Hey Steve,

What took you so long to find this board??

I came in contact with Dave Hanlon and the other gentleman named Dave (can't remember his last name) last year when he needed some paperwork so he could register that red car.

Last time I talked to you (when you bought that car) you mentioned you were in the process of redoing a 70 Skylark and had planned on using the motor that came with the Stage 1. Good choice!! You're right, that thing went like hell! Hardly any miles on that mill at all...mostly just a 1/4 mile at a time... :Brow:

As far as my car goes, not much has changed from the pictures earlier in this thread. The driveline is all set (rebuilt Muncie and stock shifter) and I'm now just saving some loot to have the body done over. I've settled on a member of this board (who does awesome work) to take on the task of doing my car....it's all a case of $$$$$....

If you want to send some pics of your car to the email address in my signature below, I'll resize them and post them in the "members rides" forum.

Glad you've finally surfaced! By the way, what did you do with the NOS grille I included in the sale of that red car?? :Do No: :Brow:

Who did you settle on for the body work? If you don't want to publish his name please send me a private message. I live in Brookline (just up the road from you) and I'm trying to find someone to replace my rear quarters.

I don't mind paying for quality work, I just have a hard time finding someone I can trust to do it right.

Congratulations on your fabulous find, that's amazing.

    It lives....

    sort of....

I moved the car back to my parent's house today after completion of it's new dwelling, a "Cover-It" portable garage. (I'm not sure if you'd call it a garage but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.) I had to flatbed it back home because it's not registered...plus, it was running like TOTAL crap!!

Installed a new cap, rotor and fuel filter and it purred like a kitten....a VERY loud kitten. (and woke up half of my old neighborhood)

I've got a box of dryer sheets strewn about the interior, in a effort to keep out the unwanted "guests" and hopefully Santa will be bringing a new car cover in a few weeks....

After my mother left (she would have given me TOO much crap) to continue on with her Christmas shopping, I decided to COMPLETELY throw caution to the wind and take it for a spin around the quiet neighborhood....let's just say it's not so quiet any longer....

Car ran fantastic!! Pete Serio's shifter rebuild stood up to the task and there are now a couple of "Johnno-esque" marks in and around a certain suburban area of North Raynham... :Brow: :Brow:

Did I mention I ran out of gas RIGHT after I returned the car to it's new home?? :Dou: :Dou:

Anyway, my daily driver (Regal LS) is 4 payments away from belonging to me and NOT the bank; my once hefty credit card bill is withering away to nothing and after that, it's time to work my a$$ off for a few months so I can actually post nice pictures of this thing and enjoy the pleasure that IS a big block Buick backed by a 4-speed....

That's all for now....stay tuned....

Brett, Neat pics of your car, especially the open engine compartment. Shows me what I didn't see w/ car, but seller says he has complete original interior w/ console. I the see washer container, etc under hood. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll borrow a digital camera or take my faithful 35mm and forward you pics. Wow, they made so few 72 GSX's, especially rare the 4 speed w/ factory AC - WOW. There's a guy in Rhode Island Steve Haymes / Haymes Restoration products for GTO's that may be interested in your car when you're ready to part. Please refrain from mentioning my name or location.

    Fred,

Have you taken delivery yet? I think I speak for the rest of the board when I ask you to post pics as soon as you get them.

As for Steve Haymes, I've never heard of him or his shop...where in RI is he located?

    John,

I too love "aged" Buicks. However, I also like to be able to put my feet on the floor and NOT have to worry about them dragging along the pavement, Fred Flintstone style...

    Know what I mean??

Decided to put a battery in it and let it run for a while. Turned right over and after a couple attempts, stayed running on it's own....

Still need LOTS of :dollar: :dollar: :dollar: but I should be able to do some work this summer, now that I have weekends off...

Maybe I should put a "donate" link in my signature?? C'mon, who wants to help fund a resto??
