I dont know the reasoning behind it but many if not most tracks have gone to 1/8 mile. Even facilities that are 1/4 run 1/8 mile programs. I ran a bracket race at Gainesville's Auto plus Raceway (home of Gator Nats) and it was 1/8. A few weeks ago I ran at a newer IHRA track that was built as 1/8 and as I staged up for my first qualifying pass I was amazed at how close the finish line looked. I'll try to D/L a go pro vid and post it here.

Reason is its safer and cost alot less to build ,maintain , and operate, 1/4mi requires a different medical staff if im.not mistaken and the insurance for the track is lot less, granted when you sign your name you are relieving them of all responsibility but im pretty sure there is still a policy in place, The closest 1/4 track from.me is 4hr drive whereas I have 3 1/8mi tracks 45 min in 3 different directions, 1/8mi is more a southern thing I guess, and trust me 5.50's at 130mph is a rush, but I guess fast street cars are a southern thing too

I'm thinking BOP lives in Puerto Rico.

From what I heard the reason tracks like the 1/8 is they can get more cars down the track in a set period of time in the weekly programs. The racers also save wear and tear on the cars. If you're running every week that would be big. I'm sure having a limited amount of land to build a track is another reason to go 1/8. You'd probably find that the majority of 1/4 mile tracks were built a long time ago when land was easier to come by.

If I ran the 1/8 exclusively, wanted to go fast, and didn't really have far to drive it on the street I'd have some stupid gears and converter and forget what the car drives like on the street.

sounds to me like for the same reasoning why Klondyke ice cream bars are very tiny now days. You might become a fat slob if still ate the old size. So now i have to eat two Klondykes . Do any of them 1/8 mile tracks have a long turn about at the end so it would equal a quarter mile. Or start really early out in the parking lot . I WILL NOT CONFORM!!:blast:!! Ok, i feeeeeellll better:TU:

That's why I don't race that much at my track. I just go to the 1/4 mile races. That's about 4 or 5 a year. That saves wear and tear on my car cause I don't go that often!:Brow:

Why all the negative talk about 1/8 mile tracks? I run what ever distance of track I want to. Mr. Klondyke you like 1/4 mile tracks good for you. I think you really are old fashioned. By the way what does your car do at the track. Maybe it runs on ice cream bars.:moonu:

1/8 mile tracks are becoming a safety factor in fast street car racing, some of the cars are approaching 200mph in the 1/8 mile. When I took my car to the track for its maiden voyage I made 1/8 mile passes on a 1/4 mile track(ran a 7.18 @95.5mph).

Thanks I have the same except I used slicks 28/10.5/15. I know I wont be running 7.1 ill be happy to see 7.8. Do you think with a little slip on tires help because they hook up 100% .

Any tire slip will hurt ET. There is some evidence that tire slip may help MPH but it will never help ET. Somebody may say they ran their best ET when the tires slipped but they either never have actually experienced perfect traction or they changed something else on the run that caused the lower ET.

Thanks nolift ill have to stop cutting corners and save up for an aluminum intake, msd box and a tourque converter to speed up launch. Is there any way of including a video on a reply?

I'm thinking BOP doesn't have a problem at this time with tire slip if he's hooking 100% with the new tires he has compared to when he first started this thread. He just asked if the tires slipped a little would that improve his ET.

I would definitely try shifting at 5500 rpm, 1-2 and 2-3. That cam should pull fine to there. That would also allow the car the least amount of time in 3rd gear where it is accelerating the slowest.

The least expensive thing you can do is get a 4 hole square bore to spread bore adapter on there if you don't already as I said earlier. If it is an open adapter it has massive reversion with the stock intake. This is the style of adapter I'm suggesting. You do not want the open style.

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2696/overview/

With this one you may have to open up the squarebore side to fit the 850 DP bores. I would even go as far as epoxing up the intake or open it up so when you look down the 4 holes you see or feel no "ledges" the air/fuel mixture can run into which causes reversion.

The Edelbrock B4B's come up ocassionally on here for a good deal.

Thanks (no lift) I'm going for the spacer because mine is the open one. I posted a video of a 8.0 pass. You can tell it needs just a little more off the line.
