i like your choice for the hood scoops. since i first got my 74 i have been trying to picture it with something to break up the acreage of sheet metal on my hood. my thoughts went from NASA style ducts like on the GTO to something from the aftermarket. something that is both subtle and usefull. are yours functional? do you have any pictures of the hood from head on?
Yes, I do. I'll include an interior shot-well, mostly the dash. The scoops on mine are functional, with a '70 GS air cleaner. My buddy Darren put the custom stuff on the car. I'm keeping it that way. I like your Avatar, Rob. Is that Salmon on the grille? -Zach.
Zach, When I 1st started to restore my car, I wanted to have those Hood scoops on it.(Stole my idea, I'm Just Kiddding. LOL) ASWOME CAR! :3gears: :beer Can I ask for a few photos if you don't mine? I would just like to do this to one of these cars(73s) if I ever get another one. Do you have any pictures of the engine with the air cleaner on it? What is done to the engine to make it seal with the hood? or does it just fit that way with the air cleaner? Do you have a picture of sitting in the driver seat and looking out the windshield and you can see the hood scoops? and just one more if you don't mind, on from the side, but still being able to see the scoops? :TU: Thanks Zach! Oh and one last question, was that the factory hood and just modifided? Thanks, Ant
When I get a chance, I'll try to take the photos as you described. Sitting in the car, and looking out over the hood is much the same as sitting in a GS, and doing the same. Same scoops. The hood is the original hood, with scoops from a '71 GS hood "spliced" in. (don't worry, the GS hood was beyond saving, but the scoops were good) The air cleaner is also from a GS, and fits quite nicely. I even have the foam seals on it. Like I say, I didn't perform the modifications, although I'm capable of doing so. It was like this when I got it. My friend Darren, whom I got the car from, has a '70 GSX (Corvette yellow, not Saturn yellow), and bought this as a second car. I'm restoring his son's '70 Skylark (GSX clone), and he gave me the '73 Century in exchange for the paint job. Not a bad deal,eh? The '73 will be my daily driver. I'll tack on a picture of the engine for now. And, a door panel and interior shot, to pique your interest. :Brow: Note that the interior looks as good in person as it does in photos, and is 100% all original! Later---Zach
In fact, I have a burgandy red Buick sport wheel horn button, I picked up years ago at a swap meet, because it was cheap, now I can use it! I am in the market for a burgandy red (not maroon) sport wheel, so ya'll let me know if you see one, O.K.? - Zach
yep, we dont get fresh salmon very often this far inland, so i took advantage of an opprotunity one day and made a great BBQed beauty. we can get lake trout that size out of flathead lake. love them too, but i havent been out on flathead for a while. gotta get back into fishing again. i got too many hobbies :spank: i think those scoops look pretty good on your car, but if i do mine like that i will stay away from the flat black :TU:
Thank you Zach! So it has the stock carb, and the hood seals right and it just fits? Now that would be sweet! Thanks, no rush for the pictures. Just love it, not a big fan of the black paint, but is still nice! Thanks, Anthony
Like I say, it was that way when i got it. The flat black was, apparently, an easy way to finish it out without painting the entire hood. The contour match of the splice isn't perfect, so the black helps mask that as well. A logical choice, if not a popular one. Keep in mind, that the flat black on the hood was a popular muscle car thing back then, granted, not on GM products, but a popular look of the day. Of course, i was nine years old when this '73 Century of mine rolled off the line, so I remember that era well. Keep in mind too, that Buick GSX's ('70-'72) had the center section of the hood painted satin black, so that was also a factor in the decision to do the center black. If the hood comes out good and straight, I'll paint it body color. I'll keep ya'll posted. --Zach
Putting GS scoops on a 73 and later hood must be a epidemic. I have been wondering what it would look like myself. I'll be doing a stage 2 scoop on mine though. Zach, do you have any pics of the rear spoiler setup?
Zach that is a sweet Century! looks like it's in great condition.. here is my "custom" exhaust created out of frustration at not being able to get a straight answer on what system fits. :af: so we had the install kit still on hand from the scrapped plan to put on side pipes (i really wanted a 70s ride ) and some pipes from the system that was on my 72. out of that mess we created a Challenger-type exhaust ... the only thing i wish i had done is paint the pipes from the mufflers to the tips flat black so it isn't as noticeable (like when i have the a$$ end jacked up) the tips are the nicest part - Megs stainless oval 12" i believe.
Very interesting! Nice work. I had a wild thought the other day--sidepipes! Those were the big thing back in '73! Maybe I'll make it into a "period correct" street machine. Add a set of Keystone mags, and I'm there! -- Naa, I like my Buick mags too much. -Zach
Here's a shot of the spoiler, not a good angle, but gives you a little look at it. More to come! ---Zach
Nice to see more people who are interested in these awesome 73-77 Century/Regals. I currently have the motor out of my 76 4dr Century 350 auto. I like the 2 drs better and I'm looking for one for a project. I'll post pics of my car after I get the motor back in and finish the paint. Cheers, Sean.
Nice to see more people get interested in the 73-76 Buick era. :beer :TU: Will post some pics of my resto '75 Riviera here soon
those dont look like very good snow tires, and its gonna suck scraping your windshield this winter, too :spank: p
