    No paperwork and he says no engine numbers but I do no think he knew to look on the front of the block.

    I agree Jim...

    And I don't think he knows too much about stage 1's. Nothing about some stage 1's built in Fremont & Framingham. 40,000 miles? :rolleyes:

    Nice car, though he doesn't mention ANY of the stage specific parts. :puzzled:

    Wrong center caps too. I think you must assume it is a wrong engine non stage 4 speed if you were planning on bidding.... :bglasses:

    He sure is proud of those shiny pot metal things... :boring:

    Did a 71 Stage car not have a chrome breather lid? I thought so, but now I doubt my memory after seeing this car.

    Looks like a pretty nice car, I will be keepin' an eye on this one, to see if it brings in some serious $$$$$ or not.

    No PW, PL, PS, A/C, AM radio, but it does have Buick road wheels, GS package and the Stage 1 engine. So it balances itself out. :Brow: :bglasses:

    I am not 100% sure but the interior is all wrong. I thought all GS's in 71 came with the waffle pattern, at least the door panels.

    The front seat is not correct for a GS, it's from a base model Skylark Deluxe. Where's the limited slip decal on the inside of the deck lid? It has a '72 or newer intake with the smog pump passages. There's a pretty good pic of the steering shaft. Some of you more knowledgable folks might ba able to tell if it's a big block shaft/coupler. Also, the VIN is not proof positive that this car is a GS. Could also be a V8 Skylark. If you're interested, have him check the VIN on the tranny and front of the block and have him look for the posi tag on the rear cover. Chrome valve covers and Stage 1 decals are cheap. Wouldn't be surprised it this one's a clone.

    You mention a limited slip decal. Did all Stage 1's get limited slip rears?
    My 71 GS455 came with an open 3.08 rear.

    I'm a 69 guy, but I did own a 71 GS at one time, and in researching th numbers in a Buick source book, I noticed that the VIN on a 71 "would" tell you GS or not, but "would not" tell you 350, 455 or Stage 1.

    I could be wrong though, because the 2nd & 3rd digits in the VIN in 71, which if they are "34", would be either Skylark or GS according to this link, but I think it's inaccurate & I'll explain why.

    http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/buick-gs/buick-gs-specs.shtml#VIN

    If you look at it:

    34 = GS (1971)
    34 = Skylark V8 (1970-71)
    34 = Sportwagon V8 (1970-71)
    35 = Special Deluxe V6 (1965-67)
    35 = Skylark V6 (1968-69)
    35 = Skylark 350 (1970-71)

    WTF? :Do No:

    Can't have it both ways, either it's 34 or 35. If it's a V8 it's a 350.

    It is a GS coupe by VIN , but no 'proof' of the factory stage1 option.

    Even if the block serial # matches, the production code has been decked.

    Do your research before bidding.

    I am not sure on this one

    Is the 4spd set up the way they came from the factory or would it have a console? This is a nice car but there seems like a lot of question marks. There is nothing wrong with a nice clone just make sure you pay the right amount for it

    Bench seat 4-speed cars didn't get the console.

    Also a 3.42 posi was the standard stage 1 rear in 71 but an option was other ratios and even an open rear end.

    The owner is a nice guy but interprets the 34 and the H to mean it was a stage 1.

    He says he also researched it before he bought the car with the dealer but insofar as I have seen has no dealer paperwork showing it was ordered with a stage one option code.

    Definitely either a 72 or 73 intake. Just like my 72 with the cap on it for the injection pump. Also my 72 has the same voltage regulator set up. Apparently they were available both ways in 72 and in the alternator in 73 on up.

    My 71 had the exact voltage regulator as well. Its a 350 though.I wouldn't want to say that the interior wasn't correct as it could have been ordered plain.I seen a 71 documented GSX 350 at Salem and it had the base interior in it.I have seen another 71 BB car that has base interior as well.So,nothing is a given anymore.
