Hey guys just thought i would let you know that my buddy was the one that won the auction on the Skylark and as of right now it looks like he's going to get the middle finger also! After the auction he called the old guy and he was quite rude and said the auctions not over yet. :Do No: So he emailed the daughter three times and so far hasnt got a response back yet! He also called her Phone that she had listed on the account and it was for a medical clinic and nobody there knew who she was. Hopefully they will honor the deal but not looking good so far. I will let you guys know how it goes and if we go to get the car i will also let you know how it looks. Really sucks when people have no integrity! :af: Its not like they didnt not know how the auction works we talked to them and i know several other people did as well. And i know there email works cause we emaied them to tell them that it was a 1971 and not a 1970. REX362 if they stiff us as well you need to make sure you file a complaint with ebay, i know nothing will come of it but just the same i think you should. Sorry you had to deal with these turds as well.

like I said ya cant force it out of em....

imo....I think they have no idea how ebay works ..or unless someone else told em that they are worth more....or maybe even took all 3 items away....

nothing lost - nothing gained in my book...

anyways here is my email from his daughter...

    well....

Your bid is a legal contract, so I'd bet the listing is a legal contract as well. It will be very interesting to see how this ends up...

That is a really nice convertible...

Well it looks like shes going to honor the sale finaly but i'm not going to hold my breath! We will be heading there later this week so i will let you know how it goes if and when we get the car back home.

Frank i'm glad you left them a negative feedback even if it is meaningless, they have that mopar up for auction like you stated and others should be aware of how they conducted themselves. :Dou:

    Cars in Merrimac, Wisconsin

I went up there the day the auction started to look at this Skylark convertible and the Cadillac (I was in WI to pick up another car). The floor pans didn't look very good from the bottom and the frame was very rusty. I dropped a brand new marine battery in the car added gas worked on it for about two hours and all I could do was get it to turn over a few times. Maybe new cables and a coil will help but ol' Louis is far smarter than he leads on. The Caddy he told me he'd sell for 7500. when I told him I bought one last year just like it in Carlisle for 3000. he just shrugged his shoulders and said not this one.

I met a couple of great guys from Chicago, Manny and Srecko. They too were really disappointed. The top is new, the rear qtrs have quite a fair amount of mud in them. None of us could get the trunk open with the key to see what that pan looked like. The core support and inner fender are toast. Paint was a poor repaint, the hood and right fender were replaced at one time. All and all I would have bought the car for 2k but he wasn't selling. He told me "I had this car sold 4 years ago for 5k but the guy died." He then said these cars are rarer now so they're worth more. He told me it would take 6k or more to buy this car. The Chrysler was fair but a poorly painted teal and he wanted 5k or greater for it.

Hopefully the expectations aren't beyond the cars condition.......

Don't you just love people that get your hopes all up just to try to scam you ? I drove for an hour today to look at an econo beater that was suppose to be mint, get there and he says it has a "little rusthole"...it was the entire inside of the passenger side rear rocker once you opened the door, AND as an "added bonus" the mice had been all through the car and had nested in the heater so when you fired up the blower you got nest and mouse piss smell in the face....THEN the guy won't BUDGE on the price anyway.....after wasting the better part of my day. The rusty 71 Sklyark I posted pics of on here a week ago that I bought was better because the guy was HONEST about the fact it was a shitbox.

I have run up against a bunch of folks like these on Ebay, both selling and buying....some people just have no integrity, and I have also run into cagey "old timers" that think they will sell you some crap pile just because you fall for their "sthick". An old guy here in Maine years ago tried to sell me a 70 GS455 coupe with a bent frame, a rought iron grill, a seized 430 and a 69 Olds Delta 98 coupe with a stuck 455. Tried to tell me olds motor was mint and a direct replacement for the Buick, wanted WAAAY too much money for them, and was pissed off when I made an offer. Turns out he was just "shilling" for someone else. Cars were not his, and he didn't really know **** about them...big scam. They are out there, be AWARE :puzzled: .

I received an email from the buyer and I will call him tonight or tomorrow. I don't know if the Chicago guys are board members but they too could certainly confirm the cars condition - even the gas tank will need replacement. As Manny said to me in an email yesterday "I was very unhappy with that car so I really just wanted to leave."
A "9" in terms of frame condition to me would have scale rust on it, maybe even a hint of some original paint somewhere - not the case here. This frame is rusty, not damaged in any way but like the overall cars condition - disappointing. Could the car be driven as a Saturday afternoon cruiser I believe so with some elbow grease and money. Would you ever take it to a show in its condition? I wouldn't. The owner knows there's quite a bit of mud there and gave me the usual "I'm not a body shop guy" speech when I felt to lower part of the rear qtr and there literally was about an 3/16" crease of mud that had been painted over.
I'm glad I made the drive and didn't rely on the conversations I had with the seller.

What's the deal with the listing category they're using? Everything Else > Other

I thought it was against eBay policy for a car to be sold anywhere but the appropriate eBay Motors category where the mileage, VIN and other pertinent information is required. Also, the fee structure is different between selling a car and a standard auction. Weird.

Furthermore, isn't it strange that the seller has been an eBay member for six years and is just now receiving their first feedback?

A couple of months ago I rented a U Haul Trailer and drove around 1,000 miles Round Trip to Chicago with my V10 F250 Super Duty to pick up a Skylark I had won on Ebay. I had a Cashiers Check in hand for the FULL amount and even drug a buddy along with me to help with all the driving. I was told it was "Rust Free" and Ziebarted when it was new. I was also told the AC worked and that the motor ran great. I got there and the AC didn't work, the motor sounded like crap and it was ticking like crazy and the inner fenders and core support were all doughed and patched up. There was this flexible crap that was glued down onto the Core Support and then it was painted over. He told me that he didn't do it and knew nothing about it. The paint was still tacky to the touch and there was even a piece of the stuff still laying on the inside of the front bumper from when they cut it to fit. I'm not sure what kind of idiot he thought I was :Do No: but I sure learned my lesson on that trip. NEVER Buy anything until YOU look at it first or have someone that YOU trust look at it first. I kept all my paper work, took pictures and even had a witness with me to back me up as he threatened me with Legal Action. I gave everything to my Lawyer and told him to hang onto it but I never heard any more from him. I had $400 or so just in expenses but I guess it could have been allot worse and I could have just had it shipped here and found out what a POS it really was AFTER I paid for it and bought it.

I ended up finding a REALLY NICE 72 Lark much closer to home for the same money. It's been a GREAT car and I'm very pleased with the purchase. I made him an offer when I first went to look at it and he turned me down, I was really bummed. I was just about ready to call him back and make a higher offer and he called me back a few weeks later and said come and get it for what I offered him :beer

    Good Luck and lessoned learned

When I spoke to the old guy several days ago, he told me someone offered him $6500 for the Skylark. I believe that offer was a few years ago.
When the car was first posted, it was a "classified ad" for $2,000. They told me that was an error and they went ahead and relisted. Sound as if, they don't know what they are doing.

    Good luck.
