Hi Guys. Thanks for reading this plea. I am trying to finish up the restoration of George Lanoue (San Jose CA)72 GS with a 71 GSX 455 motor. The motor is from a NON A/C car and is planted into his A/C car now. I need a 71 455 A/C IDLE COMPENSATOR AND MOUNTING BRACKET. No, a 72 will not work CUZ that compensator mounts to a manifold provision, which the 71 manifold does NOT have. It MUST BE 71 455 A/C equiped part. George N sent me this pix as a reference. Please help. ThanX. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
jeeeze. Several ATTEMPTS to post and still no viewable picture. ou: so much for technology huh. Can ANYONE tell me what I'm doing wrong here?? o No: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Did you check the repro made by Lectric Limited? Look under AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL DEVICES www.lectriclimited.com.
ThanX Jim! I dont see it on their webpage so I guess I'll have to call them direct on monday..meanwhile..ANYBODY ELSE got a line on one???
I posted a pic supra just to cut the corner for you. The mount may not be correct. ---------- Post added at 02:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:19 PM ---------- It is the same unit made by Lectric Limited.
Jim, I'm not sure but I don't think Wheelz is talking about that part. Wheelz, If you are talking about the electronic unit that replaced the mechanical dash pot on the late 71 cars, they are hard to find. The electrical unit clamps into the bracket and mounts to one of the intake bolts. If so AC vs non-AC doesn't matter, but they are different for auto vs stick..............................so you would either need a 455 auto or 455 stick unit only. (350 brackets are different.) Duane PS. I tried to look up an old post to get a pic but all I see is the "paperclip symbol with attachment" on the post. Sorry.
THATS exactly what I'm taking about Nelson. The one on the lower right corner of your picture. Is is for sale? I was told it was an A/C idle compensator..maybe its not called that at all. Nevertheless...Email me with details! PenWheelz2@ij.net Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wheelz, The one Nelson posted (with the rubber boot) looks like its a 71 big block automatic unit. The brackets are different for stick cars. Duane
Thanks for the replies guys! Yes, Duane, the car is a automatic and the one with the boot appears to be the one I need. One of the main issues is, the car is a '72 with a 72 BB harness, however, I still think I can make it work with the necessary 71 motor connection requirements. . . . Your thoughts? Thanx Again for all your help guys! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wheelz Did you get the part? If not I have the bracket you need without the electral stepup,(just the bracket) let me know, Johnny
Thanks for the offer Johnny... I'll give Nelson a dayer two to respond. ray: If I dont hear back from him I will buy your bracket and continue to search for the actual solenoid! :TU:
Wheelz, Sold a complete GM package, NOS, last Fall. Brackets for all 3 engines included- 350-2,350-4 & 455-4. The wiring on the '72 will work, an extension from the TCS operates the idle solenoid. Harness is easy to make. Difficult item to find. Not surec where the set went but the remaining brackest NOS might be available. These were a late production '71 change for all cars, AC or non AC.
Theres a 71 225 455 4bbl in a local yard, and all that stuff is there, i know, i took the carb, and didnt have the tools to take the solinoid and forgot to get the TCS,,,i could go back monday....
Oh YESSS. . . .PLEASE DO Mark! and if you can, please cut off the wiring harness to this lil buggir including the TCS connector? and as long as possible to I can graft it into this existing harness.. THANK you. THANK you. THANK you! Wheelz, Tampa Bay
