I know you won't read this until after Rochester but I finally remembered to tell you about my hood. I looked closer and it is the Green-gold but had black sprayed over most it it, unless its dirt. That sounds like another project, too many going on right now. :)

    I'm still here...Rochester is next weekend. I'm leaving Tuesday:Brow:

I think the general consensus is that the underhood was semigloss black just like the rest of the underhood stuff, with body color overspray.

I hate to break in with a dissenting opinion, but is the black a full semi-gloss? I've always thought of it as something less than semi-gloss. I have used a VHT high-temp paint code SP-139 - GM satin black with great results. Here's a pic of the underside of my 67 with the stuff.

It's difficult to tell how much gloss was in the paint when original. My 4 door looked like it had a lot of gloss in it, so I went with a full semigloss. CARS, Inc sells a chassis black that is more of a satin, and it looks pretty good, too. Actually, I used that paint to do the underhood of the 4 door, since I ran out of semigloss paint, and it looks great. So, I don't really know. I think it was an in-between of those two glosses.

Planning to clean and re-coat the underside of the hood. What cleaners have you used to scrub off the road grime? I'm planning to clean it with the hood on, so I want something I can just use on a rag that I don't have to drip all over the enging.

While this was body color under the hood, I got some Low Gloss Black that I think will look good.

Whe I did the underhood of the LeSabre, my engine was freshly done. So, I had to use a large plastic drop cloth draped over the whole engine compartment to shield it from debris and crapola falling from the hood. I also replaced the hood insulation. Side note on the insulation - the stuff that Classic Buicks sells is in sheet form, and needs to be cut to shape for the 71-72 big cars. I used my old ones as patterns.

I used Acetone and LOTS of paper towels and shop rags to clean the hood off. It was a pain in the butt with it in the car:

I got lazy with the insulation and bought the precut pieces. Sounds like I'll make up for it with the scrubbing... after I finish that, I need to get started on going through that old Electra motor to see how far I'm going to take it down... or leave the short block intact...

Where did you get precut hood insulation?

They must've fixed the problem since I bitched about it. When did you buy it? I got mine in September or October and told him about the problem...he said he would look into it.

I'm guessing I might have ordered it in January or February, but had marked the webpage sometime before that. Don't remember when.
