We need some of the square plugs that fill the standard square hole in the firewall used when a TH 350 trans in installed but not used when a manual or a TH 400 is used. Does any one have any or know a source for these?

Jim--you mean the plug when a t400 is used so only one cable is coming through the firewall? If so-it is a plug with a tab on one end--the plug itself has a large square depression and the attached tab has a smaller round depression...both depressions press into holes (square hole and small round hole) in the firewall.

The one I describe is sqaure but with a triangular tab coming off one end. Patton

Jim---I don't have one in front of me and I will try to check part numbers tonight---I have the square plugs with the integral tab. Don't think I have any "square only--no tab" type.

Also Jim--I think you may have it reversed in your original thread---T350s usually utilize BOTH square holes in the firewall--one for the throttle cable and the other is occupied by the kickdown/detent cable...can you check or clarify? Patton

    Patton,

I could use one of those, too. After Jim, of course. The one I need has a square and a round hole (plug).

    Thanks, Matt

Let me check "the supply" tonight.....Jim..I'm still looking for clarification. I guess it would help if I would buy a d*mn camera! Patton

Would a 70 Assembly Manual page reference help? 6-10.1

    I need a couple.

Patton when you have a 4 speed set up or a TH400 set up if the square hole that I am talking about was not plugged with the square detent plug I am looking for there would be a open square hole in you firewall. If you have a TH 350 set up this same hole would be filled with the kick down cable and it would be surrounded at the firewall square hole by a different kind gromet which has a round outside perimeter and a square inside perimeter through which the cable is inserted through the firewall.

I think what you are looking for is a non-T350(as in T400 or manual trans) firewall plug.....it is the one I described. Is this going on the big block, 4 speed application or a t400 car? If so it should use the plug I describe above. There should be another small hole in the firewall near the square hole we are discussing....this small hole accepts the small round depression in the triangular tab-part of the plug.

I don't have a manual with me right now....will later.

I have also seen plugs that are the square shape only, but they were not used on any Buicks or Oldsmobiles during these years.

I think they are some of those dreaded "chevy" parts.

Yes I think Duane is spot on. A pic is worth a those words and assembly manual references.

    Tim,
I do not know of any reproduction available for these plugs, that's why people are here asking for them.

Its funny though what is out there. Had to go to a shop last week way on the other end of town for some vinyl dye, turned out they had all kinds of GM clips and plugs and stuff in stock, sitting right there. Stuff I had looked for for years it seemed, thought only GM had. Anyway, gonna make another run down there and see what they can come up with...won't hold my breath though.

BTW Duane, for some reason I get e-mails no problem from you, but when I try to reply it bounces back. Wierd.
