What is the diffrence associated with a 70 skylark custom compared to a 70 skylark?

The only diffrence I have seen is:

    Deluxe interior.
    16" Armrests

Also the motor is a 350 4brl motor What rear gears (8.2 rear) came in these cars, were they the same as a 2brl.

    Thanks

    Jim Thanks a ton.

I thought the 4brl cars got a better gear.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

The Customs were/are basically a GS w/o hood and air cleaner.

    The Customs have:

    Deluxe/GS rocker panel covers
    Split bench seat
    Deluxe interiors
    Courtesy light package
    Woodgrain kits
    Maplight mirror
    Sometimes sport mirrors
    Usually stainless trunk trim
    Dual horns

The above items are based on cars I have parted
out or stripped in the local salvage yards.

Rear gears determined by AC. In 71-2 ac 350-2bbl
cars had 2.56 while 4 bbl cars had 2.73.

Other ratios were available as an option.

    Sorry

I went back and looked. I read it incorrectly the first time .

    4 barrel auto= 2.73 standard

    2 barrel auto= 2.56 "

    3 speed = 2.93 "

I do not see a custom in a 4 speed.

Just to put a point on it a 70 skylark 350 has the same standard spread for gears as stated above while a GS 350 has 3.23 sets--my personal favorites for the street.

Dustin and I got parts off a 70 Custom and it had 2.78 posi in it.We took the cover off and and counted the teeth on the ring and pinion,it was immaculate inside.Maybe should have gotten it but had no tools to remove it.We also have a 72 custom that has a Halo top on it with non power steering.1 also have a buildsheet for a regular Skylark(72) that came with the following, saddle buckets, long console flr shift, sport mirrors, ralley wheel, tilt steering and was really loaded for a Skylark.

My first Buick was a 70 Custom and it was a 350/2bbl. It had a regular bench seat-not split in a real funky cloth material. It had the dome lights in the sail
panels. No woodgrain or map lights/glove box lights either.

The additional "regular equipment" of the Custom above the Skylark 350 and regular Skylark (from the 70 sales brochure)"
    The Custom:
Standard engine was the 260 HP V2 engine.
Optional engines were the 350-4 (285 hp) and the 350-4 315 hp
The only difference between the the custom and the other Skylarks in the "Power Train and Handling Features" listing was that the Custom came with "direct acting hydraulic shock absorbers".
In the "Comfort and Convenience Equipment" the Custom came with:
"Comfort-Flo ventilating system" (on sport coupe and convertible), "custom padded seat cushions", deluxe steering wheel, "ash trays - front and rear", "ash tray and glove compartment lights",
"arm rests front and rear", "carpeting", "front door-operated interior light".
Mine has all the above, along with the dash woodgrain, clock, a/c rear domes in the sail panels, different grille and of course the funky extra padded split bench seat.

hey Mark kewl car... I have the same interior. I think it's pretty rare on skylarks. I've only seen one other than yours and mine. It was on ebay and it was trashed. It's unreal how nice your seats are after 35 years! My rear seat was ok but the front was ripped. They're reupholstered with OEM materials now. Do you have pics of your car posted on this site, I'd like to see 'em?

The day I went to look at my car I saw the condenser through the grille and said to myself "yeah!" Then I opened the hood and saw 350-4 it was a done deal. It was the first four barrel car I had seen.

What's different on your grille?? How many miles on yours? What's the history of it?

Great thread Phil-- a great forum to debunk some 'Skylarks are plain' myths. I wish I had a scanner in order to post a copy of my '70 Skylark order form--- it tells the story. Mark pointed out something many people don't know-- there are Skylarks (base), Skylark '350's (mid level) and Skylark Custom (luxury) The Custom model simply has more standard features, but things like clocks, guages, mirror map light, trunk lights, speed alert, etc. were not standard on Customs, but options available on most models. Some things like buckets were only available on the Custom model and power windows, for instance, were not available on the base Skylark in '70.

The grille-- Custom models have the surrounds and ribs on the grille chromed and have the center tri-shield and left hand side 'skylark' script. Judging by the part #'s in the assembly manual (3 different #'s) it looks like the base Skylark and the Sportwagon had the plain grille with no emblems or chrome, but had the stainless trim surround which also fits the GS grille.

Love those funky cloth interiors guys- I have a parts car that was born w/ that interior too--- that was the only interior available in a Custom hardtop or sedan if the fold-down-armrest bench or buckets weren't ordered, in those cases you got the same 'waffle grain' vinyl interior many '70 GS cars have....

'70 Skylark Customs seem to be quite often more loaded than GS350's and were available with the same 315 horse 350 and dual exhaust, plus similar posi ratios were optional..... no 4-speed available on a Skylark, however......

Sorry about the rambling....I enjoy researching this stuff... :Smarty: :pp

Hmmm...never seen that interior in a '70 Custom before. My '70 Custom's interior was the madrid/waffle grain split bench, with matching door panels, very different from those pictured, I still have the original rear seats and front/rear door panels

In the door panels, my '70 Custom had "Custom" script, in chrome

Chris the car I bought is the same way deluxe interior (waffle grain) with Custom scripts. Although I have seen a standard interior 70 GS with a cloth bench seat (blue) it was very unique, Someone told be richard lancaters- old blue has a simliar interior. (not sure never seen his car).

I wonder if this mattered, plant to plant, or if it is an early 1970 versus later 1970 thing, as well? Mine's an early '70

Personally I prefer the madrid/waffle pattern, but maybe that's becaue I've been looking at it for 15 years!
