Hi Jim,I fully expect the first BPG meet in August to be a great event and hope to be there myself to help support a Buick event and meet old and some new friends. But one thing I do know is a fact or truth is true weather you,I,or anyone else likes or believes it or not and the GSCA Nats in BG is the largest all GS/GN event in the world at this time.I am not trying to take anything away from the BPG meet by stating that fact;I had a great time and would think anyone who likes Buicks and attended BG would have enjoyed themselves as well. I also think the BPG event will be enjoyable as well;but judging from the difference in membership numbers I think the GS Nats will remain the largest GS/GN event this year but in time that may change. The info I shared about the grille was in response to the request for info by board members who did not get to attend the nats and as requested I was passing on what I was told about the grille. At this time it looks like the GSCA has helped get a much needed part reproduced and I commend them for that. MY opinion is that because of the BPG group the GSCA is listening a little bit better to some wants of the members [repro parts] so by supporting both clubs Buick lovers are benefitting.

I have some really good pics of the repo grill from the seminar on wed. night. I don't know how to resize them for posting. Let me know if someone can and I'll e-mail them to you.

Will it be an issue for concourse type restos or judging that this grille is made from a different type of plastic than the originals were?

As far as Judging, I wouldn't care if it was made out of Elmers glue and popscicle sticks, as long as it was painted/looked and fit correctly. I don't know what type of plastic/material it is made from, but as long as it looks like an original grill that's all we need to judge it as such.

Some more pics of the repro grill furnished by Johnno. This is #1.

Johnno, I didn't need to resize these at all. I posted them the same size as you sent them to me.:TU:

Well, I guess they DID have one on Wednesday night. I read about it here, but it wasn't listed in the program.

The Buick community is on the rise!

I had the opportunity to see the "french" repo grill up close at the Nats......and it's a very nice piece....plus, @$500 a pop it looks to be a bunch better than $800+ NOS. IMHO!

This project and others of recent show theres renewed interest in The Buick Gran Sport...

I don't care about the so called politics involved...i'm gonna support whoever is willing and can do the job!!!

Plain and simple, when we do our talking with our wallets folks "other vendors" will take notice!

We save money and thus can save more GS cars from being parted...That my friends is a "Win-Win" deal...

    Yes these are exciting times...

If everyones looks at the imperfection at the top of the repro grille in pic#6 [looks like a half circle located at top of center bar on grille] that imperfection was present in the NOS stock one and that is why it is in the repro grille as well. The repro grille mold reproduced a part JUST LIKE the part used for the mold.If anyone has a really nice or NOS GS grille it would be great to use one for the other year grilles needed to make a mold from.

I agree with Rusty. Anyone with a top quality or NOS 71-72 grill should seriously think about contacting these people so they can use it to make a mold.

Obviously, the calling for the 71 is much higher than the 72 but hey, what the heck, right, why not get all 3 years out of the way in one shot??

(I know it's not that easy but it does sound like a good idea, doesn't it? :Brow: )

    Rusty,

Are there any updates on the 70 repo grille? Have any been made or available yet? Please let us know if you have any new info.

    Thanks.

While I do not have access to any special inside info on these grilles I do know from the latest GSXtra club newsletter that they hope to have the 70 GS grille finished by Christmas. The GS Club will then reproduce 71 GS grilles next. They also mentioned they would consider getting other items reproed such as 70 GS rear bumper nameplate and asked for suggestions on other items we need!!With serveral people, clubs, and venders working on GS parts we may actually see all the grilles reproed soon!!!!!! I think that would be great!!
