Just curious if any of you that are at BG this week have seen the 70 grille repro that was supposed to be there? Any details to report? o No:
The silver one I think is NOS. It still has the little foam stuck to the center the way they are packed at GM. Bill
Details boys, details. For those of us not able to attend the Nationals, please advise. Typical, don't go to save time for the BPG Nationals and its 80 and sunny in Kentucky! That's just about my luck!
If you blow the picture up and increase the brightness you can see that they are flipped over showing the back, looks like the repo is all black probably fresh from the mold. Hopefully we get more info!!!
I looked at these grills at the NATS. It looked real good! Made from a different, more compliant, less rigid plastic. Bolt holes, mold marks etc were very consistant with the NOS grill. The grill mesh or egg crates did not seem quite as crisp. the bottom edge of the grill was not as smooth. Realize that the black grill (repo) in the picture was NOT painted or prepped for sale/delivery. With finish prep this WILL be a nice piece. All in all a much better piece than I expected. It will sell well when/if they make the market.
I just got back from the nats .I saw the repro grillle at the restoration clinic Wedsday night and it is a great repro!!!!!!!! Every detail of the NOS grille was present in the repro it is a topnotch repro part.We were told that they will come molded in the black finish and you must paint yourself. Clubmembers need to step up and put down deposit on this part when called for.If this project goes well we are promised other year grilles to follow. I do not think poeple should complain about having to mask and spray a new repro grille because the other option is to repair and paint a damaged one if you can find one and the parts to repair one with.It really was a very, very nice part.
By the way a great GS Nats this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not one drop of rain the time I was there Tuesday nite thur Saturday, lots of cars and friends, parts used and new,car show, drag racing, ect. For everyone who complains and says they will never go ect. well you have missed the largest all Buick GS/GN gathering in the world.I have been to the GS Nats when they were bigger than they are now but there still is not a Buick GS meet where there are more gs/gn cars than at BOWLING GREEN.
"Clubmembers need to step up and put down deposit on this part when called for." So what does this mean if your not a GSCA member? Pricing different for member/non-member?
I do not know the answer to your question.May or may not be availible to non GSCA club members. We were told by Richard L. that it was something they were doing to help clubmembers and they were not marking them up or making money on the grilles only acting as a go between and helping see the project through to finish. From what I understood now that the sample grille has met the quality standard that the GSCA will post detailed info in the next newsletter on deposits, time frame, how many will be made, exact price, ect. He also mentioned that it may be possible that price will be lower depending on number of grilles made.He [Richard]does not have the answer to all these questions at this time;except to say that the price will definitely be under $500.00 by what he has understood from the clubmember in France who will be making them.
I think a GSCA member posted recently that it was stated in the last GSXtra, that it would only be sold to members. I'm sure we'll hear more details as the project continues.
I took a look at the grill, and I thought it was awesome! The guy that was displaying them put them away because people were bending them, and twisting them, and knitpicking at them. After awhile, he got annoyed. I don't blame him. He took it back out so that another guy and myself could take pictures. As for marketing this just to GSCA members, well, I think that would be kind of stupido No: , and easy to get around for that matter. Here's a few pictures.
Repro 70 Gs Grill Saw the Repro grill both indoors and outside in the sun. It looked very good to me. Initially, Richard indicated that the grill would be made available unpainted, but on Friday Dave Kleiner had the grill at his booth and I wouldn't be surprised to see Dave work something out where he may paint and detail the grill for a charge for those who do not have the skill or inclination to do it themselves. For those of you who may not know, Dave restores parts for Buicks like taillight lenses, headlight buckets, etc. I saw some of his work and it looks really good. Maybe he and Richard can work something out to offer painted grills. If this repro grill was painted by someone who knew what they were doing it would look better than the NOS grill that was used to create the mold. This development in Buick grills is very encouraging. And yes the Nats were great, the weather was beautiful and the Buick fellowship was abundant.
Buick Mob We'll see come August.........  NO "mark-up"? Not making money on something? Yeah, that would be a 1st from "Dick" :Brow::error:
