Same for both. I actually do that repair on every car I get. I've done it by going through the vent in the door jamb. Not easy but doable
Yup. Not touching the door windows yet. They’re down. If they need to be up, I ain’t driving it. Maybe it’ll be a summer project
After a long break from Goldie, I finally started picking away at little things again. Before going any further with glass installation, the floors needed to be tackled. Idea here is to make it structurally sound and make sure the seats and belts are bolted into solid metal. For whatever reason, this was the only pic I got. Surprisingly enough, the floors were still pretty stout an inch or so away from the supports. There are still some areas with holes, but if it wasn’t around the supports, it got tiger haired. This really brought me back to my early days of having my first regal. The floors were shot, and I had no access to a welder or even the know how to properly fix it. Tiger hair kept that car on the road probably 2 years longer than it should have been.
Next task was to actually find my original passenger side quarter window. This car has soft Ray glass, and I plan on keeping it all with the car. Finally found the window, sans the weatherstrip. No problem. The non tinted glass I saved from the bittersweet 71 had good ones. Probably reproductions. I actually also robbed the nicer hardware from the same window. Didn’t take long, and maybe it’ll work better than the drivers side.
More progress. Got the passenger side quarter window installed. It actually works better than the driver side. I did not take Jason’s advice on the rollers for the window, mostly because I’m lazy. Interior panels are starting to go in. I had a new package tray that I bought for this car years ago from year one. Might as well cover up some more ugly with it. I really wish the headliner came a little cleaner. I scrubbed as much as possible without pushing too hard on the stitching. I guess I’ll just not look up too much. At least it smells better. Next, onto the seat belts. These are also in poor condition. The belts themselves are in decent shape, but some of the buckles have some pretty bad corrosion. I saw this trick on another group, so I’m trying it. 3 gallons of hot water with a cup of fabuloso. I’m gonna let ‘em soak till tomorrow night and see how they look. However they turn out will be how they’re going in. It’s thrash time, and I would like to put a few real road miles on it before bowling green.
After taking some advice from my seatbelt post and watching Ryan Craig’s video, I was able to disassemble all my stuck seatbelt buckles. A 36 hour bath in evaporust helped a lot, but a few still needed some manual scrubbing. They’re still far from perfect, but they all work properly, and whoever rides in the car won’t feel grossed out when they have to touch them. With the rear seat belts installed, the rear seat back can go in. It’s not the worst mismatch in the world, but I’m still hopeful I’ll find a 70 Pearl seat back.
You're getting one in BG but it might then not be the belts that gross someone out. Maybe a lead for you however on a set of nice used covers.
Why shouldn't the interior be multi color to match the exterior !? Just kidding, you're doing great work fella! This is on of my favorite interior colors, it reminds me of my 69 GS vert interior which by the way i took to my first GS nats in "98" ....good times Cheers, Don
Managed to get this done tonight. Even the power seat still kinda works. Hard to tell in the pics, but the back half of the carpet is new from ACC. The front half is an old one I had saved years ago. The main reason I did this is that eventually I’d like to convert it to a 4 speed. I didn’t want to hack the new carpet for the long console, so back in the box it goes. The last time this car had the seats in it was 2009.
Tim, weren't you looking for a pearl white seat back? https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/70-72-rear-seat.385826/
Rich, I did see that, but I was hoping to find a 70 Pearl white seat. Dano is hooking me up with one in bowling green. Thanks for the heads up, though.
