Can anyone ID and give me a Gates/Dayco number for this upper hose? I believe its a 70 GS 455 part, its marked SL 0695 C but I cant cross reference that number anywhere. I ordered a Gates 20577 and a 70548 but neither fit well..2nd pic is comparison between old and new.

    Thanks, RT

I bought a Continental 60674 Molded Radiator Hose. It looks like your new one. It does not have the little kink your original has.

Thanks Bill - the TA catalogue shows its the same hose as a 68 350 Skylark (but not 69 or 71), but Rock auto shows the Skylark hose to be the same 70548.. Did some additional research and it SEEMS like I need a Dayco 70533 which is a 68 Electra hose.

Yeah - my source shows 1967-1968, 1970 Buick Wildcat - but it does have the same kink. (Weird it doesn't cover 1969)

    Upper Rad Hose
Good Year 60683 70-71 455 upper (watch, some are cut too short!)
    DAYCO 60963 70-71 455 upper (crossed from GY 60683)
    DAYCO 70715 70-72 455 upper(no info)
    Gates #20980 71 455 upper (fits excellent)
    Napa 7715 71 455 upper
Napa 7596 72 455 upper (does not work with gs air cleaner)
    Good Year 60675 72 455 upper
Gates #20869 72 455 upper (best so far)
Note lots cross to Dayco 70533 for upper 455 all years but it does NOT work

Hopefully this helps you out a bit, this is my personal list of part numbers to remember (I keep track of parts that work and don't that I have tried over the years). I spent years running the wrong upper hose on my Stage 1 until I found the Gates 20980 upper hose on rock auto, was so excited about it I bought 3 spares once I saw how well it fits. In Canada, things are really stupid, almost every parts store up here only carries Dayco (they are cheap), so they cross the original to another # and then another # and by the time you are done you spent 35.00 on a Dayco hose that is nowhere close to fitting. The Good year 60683 was good too, but I got one that was cut about an inch short and made it hard to install. Pic of Gates 20980 installed.

Hey thanks! Thats a very helpful and comprehensive list. I wound up with the Dayco 70533, which has similar contours to the hose shown in your photo but a shorter section at the upper radiator inlet, kinda how you describe the Goodyear 60683. I had run the Dayco 70548 for a couple months but that just rubbed on everything in sight.

Well that's really strange because I tried a Dayco 70533 a few years back (well 15 !!LOL) and it was hopeless, maybe they have swapped things up?? Don't know. The 20980 fit perfectly, also works for 72 cars if they don't have the AIR pump. Probably only a few places make them anymore, just everyone putting their name on it like the fan clutches....anyway, glad you got it sorted out.

Here’s a pic of what they’re selling as a Dayco 70533 these days.. fit pretty well but short at the radiator neck..

I'll send you a pic of the Continentals I just bought on closeout @ Rock Auto - Haven't had a chance to/compare/try one on my car. There was another thread on hoses on here recently & I thought someone said the Continental did seem correct.

I always thought the 70 and the 72 upper hoses were more or less "straight" and 71 was the only year for the crazy shape. Looking at factory pics seems to be the case. can't find a pic of 1971 though.

I think the Continental has the crazy bend.

@copperheadgs1 I believe has an NOS hoses but not sure if '70 or '71.

I just replaced mine with Dayco 70715. I like the fit a lot. Tim R.....in the picture you posted, how close does your hose get to the fan blade?

If you get a chance a picture would be great! My car the hose isn't close as some I have used/tried over the years. The angle of the pic doesn't help. If you want I can take a better pic or measure it up.

From the factory the 70 and 71 GS455 used the same hose. The original shape has been discontinued for probably 20 years or more. It had a molded end made to fit between the air cleaner scoops. I have seen and had the 70-71 hose with GM part numbers on them from GM and Goodyear. Have also seen gates correct shape with their own number. The one that I find works best now is Gates 20980

Here is a real McCoy NOS 70-71 GS455 hose with molded end at top to fit hood scoops. It carried correct GM part number 1386849 and assembly line code XB. A shame no one makes it.

Here is Gates take on the correct shape hose. It’s got their own part number now obsolete. Note compared to NOS GM it’s about an inch shorter at radiator end!

Also note test 72 GS 455 is not a good choice for a 70-71 GS 455. It has a severe bend at radiator end that makes it sit on top of a 72 fan shroud. 72 also has a plastic strap that holds it in place. Use a 72 hose on a 70-71 and the fan is likely to take out your hose.

Thanks your list just helped me out. I'm doing both of mine and I got a gates 20597 for the bottom which at first glance appears to be correct. Rock auto and a couple other places said the gates 20577 was the correct upper hose and its not even close.
