I have seen this car in person and have talked to the last two owners (neither did the resto, that was done by 1 owner before them), the last owner as recently as today when I was alerted that the car was on ebay. This guy bought the car in the last week or so for $16,800, so I am guessing that his "no reserve" auction will most likely have some shill bidding involved to make sure it reaches an adequate level if there aren't enough real bidders.

I have seen his auctions before and he usually seems to sell decent cars, I doubt he has done anything to this car other than take pictures, as it looks the same as when I looked at it last weekend, and he bought it sometime after that.

Car is actually pretty nice, but like most 35+ year old cars, has some minor issues. I have never seen it at a car show locally, so I can't speak to the validity of the "many trophies" it has won and I did not drive it as I knew I wasn't buying it.

If anyone is serious about the car and needs further info, please feel free to contact me.

That's one thing that I don't like about hiding bidders' identity in the bid history - you can't identify which people have been obviously using this practice.

    Nice looking car though.

Looks decent... anyone know what year those door panel emblems are from?

    look like 69 gs emblems.
the door panels are missing the moldings also.
I have the same car with a bench seat needing complete restoration.

Are the 68 door panel emblems are beeing repoed ? I need one "used" or I'll buy a pair of repo if they made them .

This GS seems to have a Skylark/Special grill  But still a very nice looking car :bglasses:

Donald, the grille is the correct GS style grille. The Special/Sportwagon grille would have around 12 or 13 horizontal slats. No one is making repro 68 door emblems. I used to have a few spares, but I think I sold the ones I didn't want, last year. Will recheck and let you know if I have anything to sell.

Thank you David for the door panel emblem , I missed a pair recently on eBay that went for 5$ or so but they didn't had any stud left ...

For the grill you're right for the style , I meant the color that is not correct .

Hey David I think I sold you a couple of door panel emblems back a few years ago on ebay, Now that I just picked up a 68 GS convert myself I wish I had kept them :Dou: I noticed this car does not have the seat buttons :Do No: If you have any other 68 stuff shoot me a PM
    Thanks Mel

The grille is also cracked with an attempted repair job, and would need to be replaced in my opinion.

Many things incorrect on this one. Resale red does wonders to make a mediocre car look like something special.

Did the 68's have vent's in the door jambs like the 69's and 70's? This one didn't, which surprised me since 69's do, but I am not familiar with the 68's. I am guessing they must not have them?

No door jamb vents on 68's, though there is a template or whatever you call it, where it could be cut out.

I think the grille color is close. The outside area is silver, and the mesh appears to be grayish. My GS grille in the garage is like that, the interior area is not really black, more of a dark gray color, IIRC. Hard to say if that picture accurately reflects the shade of color correctly.

I am not at all familiar with the 68's, but shouldn't they look more black, like the nos one Mark Lob had? Or like this one ?

The one on the car is definitely not the same color as this one.

Hey George, how did you get into my garage attic and take a photo of my grills :puzzled:  I thought I reconized them

    Just for the record.

GS grill = same as Skylark and Skylark Custom except painted black in center. The top grill in the picture that George posted is a Skylark grill so the center is painted silver like the one on the red GS convertible.

Special / Sportwagon grill has more horizontal slats like the one in the bottom of the picture George posted.

Both will interchange and fit fine but will not be correct if not put on the right model.
