Hopefully you'll get the sound you're looking for out of the new exhaust, but don't be disappointed if not. The reason I say this is those side exits you're replacing dump out right behind the drivers door. You can hear everything!
Running it all the way to the bumper is also running most of the sound too.
You'll probably hear more of the engine and less of the exhaust.
    Hope that makes sense...

2.5" exhaust? Let me know how they fit over the axle between the springs and tires. Running the 295/50's on the back I have very little space back there for the pipes. I thought I'd like the side dumps but the noise is annoying + the exhaust stains the white letters on my tires. They look more like raised tan lettering.

Yeah I had heard 3” was very tight. And 2.5” makes more sense for my engine anyway

The crazy drone of the glasspacks, as well as the exhaust leaving next to my ears....well I love it and hate it. No conversation in this Buick

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I run 3 inch through a pair of Dynomax 17749 with and H pipe, out the back in my 64 Skylark convertible. (401 Nail 2x4)

I thought they were very quite, until I had the exhaust guy re-fit them after I installed the Gear Vendors overdrive.

Even at an idle in the garage, it has a very nice low note and tone, and not too loud.

When he drove it from where I parked it and onto the lift, it "woke up" and I remarked to a friend that was with me how I was surprised and he said:

"That's nothing, I've been behind you when you got on it and that thing is badass! It goes from mellow to DAMN! in a second!"

But, I like the sound as I am driving, top up or down, can hear the engine, talk and still have a decent exhaust sound.
(I drove my Harleys for many years with open drag pipes, but as I have gotten older, I am finding that I like a mellower sound)

I prefer a "throaty" bass note to the raspy/tinny sound.

(I will try and grab a video and see if it reproduces the sound).

Riv is different animal in terms of exhaust fit. It snakes around and can be real tight in the wheel well area. I went with 2 1/4 and less aggravation. Muffler choice is most important. I love the Walker UltraFlow....no drone, great flow

Unless you have a wheel-balancing rig available, I'd reconsider grinding down those brake drums.

OK will avoid that then Lemmy. Also, gotta rejet the carb from removing so much restriction. I'll talk to Ken shortly

I ground a set of mine with no issues.

There are places that can balance brake drum with tire/wheel. Also I have used a bubble balancer the balance my big ole Riv drums.....
Best balance job I ever had was an old guy spinning it on the car (front) with a Hunter machine on wheels and smokin a cigarette. He would put his hand with cig on fender and watch cig and add weights in a weird pattern until so smooth that it didn't even shake his ashes off....olde school!

I’ve recently read more and heard about stock bottom end 430s running 11.30s. Mind you, before you raise a finger, I’m aware the top end is not stock, I’m driving a 4550lb Riviera, and slicks were likely used. Do these handicaps add 3 whole seconds to become a 14.30 ? I guess we will find out.

Anyone seen anything like the K&N Stubstack for quadrajets?

To run 3 seconds faster you need to round up at least 200 more horses......

....which is exactly not what I am able to do :D
No question there, I simply don't have the head flow, at the most basic level

The drive shaft is fun. 5 u joynts, 2 constant velocity joynts, and 1 center support bearing.

2.5 should go in like butter melted on some buns. Then all you got to do is jam it.
Because muffins only get buttered, Buns get buttered and jammed. Butt I went with 3 in system, its very close fit with the stock rally's. The placement of the tail pipes with the TA kit is perfect. Right below the inner bottom edge of the rear bumper. I used my dual manometer with some long vacuum tubing and placed it past the bumper, out the sides, before the axle, and then ware the pipes were already at. I was looking for a negative pressure zone. The only on I found was ware TA kit placed them. just in and below the rear bumper. IT was .-3 on the freeway. Something to do with the way the air curves down the trunk and bumper creates a nice negative zone below the rear bumper. Which gives you a scavenging effect for free.

Copy and pasting for an update. Spring break is so close I can taste it. This work will all start tomorrow, and I can hardly wait.

Replaced leaking rubber trans cooler lines. Removed exhaust and I’m ready for the work involved to bring it to good exhaust levels
    (Actual time)
    My spring break week:
✅0. Stage 1 fuel pump install 1 hr (2 hrs combined with 4.65 and 4.66)
    ✅1. Exhaust 8 hr, new estimate of 2 full days 8am-12pm (9:30)
✅2. Fill trans and drive it to ensure fill level is right in park 30 min
    3. Check literally all fluids 15 min change diff fluid again?????
    ✅4. Change oil 15 min
✅4.5. Read the damn wheel codes 6 min
✅4.6. Get a better numbering system -3 min
✅4.65. Replace Inline fuel filter 10 min (0)
✅4.66. Remove carb fuel filter for bowel movements and giggles, as well as because it isn't super effective and already is being supported by a brand new filter, but save all the parts anyway 10 min (0)
    5. Make sure everything is right in tip top shape 1 hr
    6. Holy s***, is it almost that time of year again?
    7. To Lebanon we go, to the 13s we hope
8?. Grind down the fins on the aluminum drums? Long time, like the stock rallys too much

My one qualm about swapping this exhaust system is that it sounded damn good, erupting to a pleasantly feral ROAR from the sidepipes under WOT, especially with the new cam, it is way different sounding than the stock cam. I NEED the new system to sound as good or better to make me happy.

    John,

I've been doing this for a LONG time. X everything by at least 2. Maybe some X 3 or 4.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!

Isn't that the truth, but you've got a good plan, John! Spending spring break working on the car ain't a bad way to go.
