Well now all thats left is to bandage the exhaust the best I can, install the dust cover, check and fill all fluids that apparently need it, and install the hood. And for whatever reason, it hardly leaked anything at all during break in. I'm at a loss, the light at the end of the tunnel is remarkably close.
Nice job on getting it all back together and running. If that cam has a 109* LSA then it has 10.5* of overlap at .050" which will cause a lumpy idle. What sounds to be open exhaust manifolds make it sound lumpier too. Like you're doing go for the maximum vacuum at idle with the mixture screws. I'd go for about 900 rpm in neutral and that should smooth it out. You have to forget about stock idle settings with a cam that size. You also want to try staying away from the slow idle for a time to help keep that cam lubed. One good drive for 15 minutes will do it. Lucky you got that 12" SP converter to get you out of the hole. Time to make sure the switch-pitch is working. Start it up, turn the SP on, place it in gear with your foot on the brakes, bring up the revs to about 1500. While holding the throttle steady, turn the SP off, and the rpm should drag down noticeably. You could also do it while driving around and there should be a nice drop under part throttle when you turn it off.
Everything is back together except the hood. Need three people for that, so that'll happen later tonight hopefully. I nearly expect the dust cover to hit and make noises, because it didn't before, but probably will now, because why not? Totally ready to run and drive, except there's a 50+ pound hood that I can't store anywhere else for now.
Got 4 great people together, including my father, to put the hood on. I am ready for tomorrow when I finally road test and break it in, but also worried. If it isn't as great as I want it to be, well I guess its time to start saving again........ I also wonder what TA would describe this cam's idle as: Smooth Good Moderate Fair Rough What would you all think about it?
I only have that one video, so maybe it is too early for that. I'm taking it out tomorrow for tuning and testing and flogging, then maybe we will see.
Yeah I just scrolled back and had another listen, ...hard to give a proper opinion with it so raw...certainly lumpy
I'm getting 16 inches of vacuum, and timing is currently 14* initial, 34* total. I hope it runs like a raped ape compared to its past life.
This sucks, today has over 50% and much higher rain chance from 7am-6pm. Saturday it likely is, unless I can sneak it out during a pause in the precipitation
Its raining down here on LI. Look at the bright side, its getting close to 60 degrees today. Might be a good chance to start cleaning up the garage and maybe give the Riv a well deserved detailing!
You're clearly inside my head Jason, I started cleaning and started wiping away anything that got on the car during its reconstruction. I'm making a duplicate set of all three keys today and adjusting the "self adjusting" drum brakes so I feel the pedal more at the top of its travel as the shoes have worn.
