One other thing you are missing is that the dpcd is all arranged in a square, and the "P" extends all the way down between the "C and D" in the bottom row, also forming the "I" for imperial.

I remember seeing Challengers with less than 20,000 miles on the clock coming with factory correct half-smoked joints underneath the carpeting, looks like the Virg was fifteen or so years ahead of him time with the drug use!!!!

Yup, and the '62s were worse. 1962 was the only year in Chrysler history where the full-size Chrysler (a nice looking car) outsold both Dodge and Plymouth. The little Darts and Valiants looked spiffy and a bit Italian, but when Exner's happy band scaled the same styling up for the full-sized Dodges and Plymouths, things went to hell fast. I remember a large long time Chrysler-Plymouth dealer in Needham, MA. who took one look at the '62 Plymouths and switched to Ford. He once said to me: "How can I sell those (ugly) things?" He also told me that he felt that the Chryslers and Plymouths were better cars then the Fords, but people buy style. The owner of the dealership is now retired, but the Ford store is still there and doing well.

I don't think that's true. And I'm not including the Valiant or Lancer either. When you have the time, could you show me?

Ah, now see, THAT'S ugly, in my not-so-humble opinion.

    I think you're stretching it a bit.

Ugly? Nope. Not your style? Maybe.

Unless you're on the same things Exner was on.

That's a fair question, Diego. I am trying to think of my source. I remember reading it in an automotive magazine. If I can support my statement, I will post the source. If not, feel free to think of me as an idiot...

I think your point was close - the new cars screwed up the Chrysler Corp. But I don't think the sales were as you suggest.

    And, no, I don't think you're an idiot - I don't roll like that.

Hi Diego. I did find a sales figure chart on a website that deals with Chrysler stuff. It would seem to support your opinion. I have a pretty good idea where I read the statistic that I mentioned. I found a copy of the Magazine on ebay and bought it. When I get it, if the magazine supports my more then 40 year old memory, I will post it. If not, Mea culpa.

My brother picked up a decent '66 New Yorker 4 door hardtop (no posts)with AC, a 440" and 727 trans. Really nice in the interior.

    Needs a back bumper.

My grandmother left him a 69 Newport coupe. That was also an original big block car. Used to be my great-grandmothers. I actually took my road test on that car.......first time I ever drove it was on that test.

1962 Dart. One of the ugliest mopars ever built, but under that hood scoop is probably a 413 Max Wedge...

    Very Nice!
My best freind's Grandmother bought one just like that brand new. His aunt had a '65 Dodge that she bought brand new. My freind ended up with both of them. Really; fine, dependable cars.
    I've had several Chrysler products;
    • 1967 Dodge Dart 225 slant six
    • 1977 Dodge d-100 225 slant six
    • 1978 Dodge d-100 225 slant six
    • 1987 Dodge Dakota overheadcam 4 cyl
    • 2002 Dodge Durango overheadcam V8
    • 2003 Dodge Durango overgeadcam V8 (current driver)
All of them were (are) very dependable. I really like the slant six. I'ld like to have another Dart or Valiant with a slant six, for; a daily driver. And, have the Durango, too. It's good to have a back up daily driver.

You know, most of the cars mentioned in this thread have something new cars never will and that's character and individuality. It doesn't matter if someone doesn't like the style of 60's cars, I do and that's all that matters to me. To see some of you cutting down certain styles makes me grin. I don't care what it is, if it's American and it was built to drive, I like it. I like some more than others but those funky looking Chryslers were works of art in my opinion. I'm not a car snob, I'll like what I want and that includes most of what came out of the Big 3 plus AMC. You like what you want, that's ok with me.

I've had a few Mopars; '67 Cuda, '76 Sport Fury, '81 Mirada (Slant6, best riding car I've had aside from my '64 Skylark), '81 Omni hatchback, '79 1/2 Ton (D100? - Slant6 4spd, couldn't get out of its own way if it had to), and an 84 LeBaron. I wouldn't want most of them again, but the Cuda and the Mirada were nice cars.

Ok, I have to eat a little crow. I was WAY off on the year and model of my step-dad's old Chrysler wagon. It is a '63 New Yorker and apparently came with a 413ci, not the early 318ci my step-dad thought it had. He also has a '57 Plymouth 4dr that does have the early 318. Both are in pretty good shape and I know he's had them for at least 20 years but they've never been on the road.

That 62 Dodge is a work of art and for the record there is no such creature as a 413 max wedge. Yes I see he put "Max wedge" on the hood.

Jim #1: NYer wagons are rare. 1963-64 cars are handsome.

Jim #2: The red car you posted is a '63 Dodge, which had a 426 Maxie.
