http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/245760/page/0/fpart/3/vc/1/nt/3 trying to determine a value on the car in thread linked above. thanks for any help Chris
didnt see a link to the car, wildbill aka topcat will chime in,trust his advice:ball: thats a rare car!my guess is $20kou:
I like this post from the thread on the other end of the link above. "(can you believe Buick has their own site?, man this internet thing is wild!! Thanks Algore!) " Rick
2nd auction on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=019&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=290065631722&rd=1,1 I lost the link on the first auction but it drew more attention ($'s) the first time. I think the serious buyers from the first auction decided he was outta line with his price. I think it was also on ebay about two or three years ago. It didn't sell then either. My opinion is it isn't the real deal......but it is a 4spd with a 2x4 425. I wouldn't buy it thinking you have a thoroughbred . I think he was even claiming it was a COPO to defend the non matching numbers. Just my opinion. Rick
No offense to BladwinMotion.....but you guys gotta go read the full thread on his link, Be sure to go to the first post on the first page. Don't be offended....they know not of the Buick world. Baldwin here is a thread on this site discussing it... I think there are others. http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=117140 Rick
That car is a bit of a mess as the links referenced above would indicate. If you look at the photo of the speedometer housing-it looks well worn. The shifter knob should be a plain black knob since the pattern is on the little console. The driver's seat looks like the foam has completely collapsed of its been recovered poorly, since the bolster looks flat. But it is only the second 65 Wildcat convertible 4-speed I've seen for sale. That makes it very interesting. Daily Production reports show a total of 107 4-speed convertibles in '65 ( combined Custom and Deluxe).
nice car,if its legit.firewall tag mounting is wrong,i wouldnt buy it with YOUR money.find out its stolen or wrecked.cant inspect it before bidding??:error: seller is hiding somethingou: i agree, run away fast
First let me say of course no offense taken or any intended in remarks about ANY auto group having there own website. I am really new to gearheads on line as I have had to spend the last thirty years of my life wishing I had more enthusiasts to communicate with. I am still amazed at the unseen network that has developed. Second, and probably most important is that you guys here, in just a matter of hours have saved me and my friend from almost being duped in a major way and I am extremely grateful. Before even finishing all the links and comments on threads discovered here I was able to make two calls and share the wealth of your knowledge. As you can see from my post on Yenko.net (below) http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/245760/page/0/fpart/1/vc/1 my inquiry knew nothing of this car owners attempt of an EBait sale and the vehicle also showed up with an interesting history which is now quite suspect. again I thank you all for posting and taking the time to direct me to what you knew about this car. you really saved my A$$ and my face. Chris PS. it is true I know not of the Buick world, but I do know honest car guys will not let me down. :beer
just one more thing if anyone knows. are these cornering lights on the front fenders, I havent been able to find them in any other pics. thanks again for your help. Chris
Bottom line, the motor VIN does NOT match the car's VIN (I sent the eBay seller a lengthy email about their Wildcat), so it is not a real deal. 4-speed, yes. Rare, yes, but unless there is a Protect-O-Plate for that car or the denoting X in the motor code, the ACC code for the X motor on the cowl tag, or the original matching motor, you have a bogus X code Wildcat. Cool car, but fishier than the Pacific. Matt
If anyone knows 4 speed Wildcats, it's Matt. AKA Wildcat Matt :beer He has helped me on many many occasions with these cars. He also guided me in the purchase of my 64 4 spd convert. Great guy, and a great source of Buick knowlege.
thanks Matt, all I can figure is the trim tag has the 2L which means four speed. If it is an original tag from this car, who knows, as it has obviously been attached in a method that does not represent every other tag we have seen. What would be the correct ACC code for the X motor ? I will still be seeing the car on tuesday and plan to check the engine code and look for a build sheet. Could you suggest where I might find one in this car? Thanks again for your help. Also, I would like to see, if possible the lengthly letter you sent to the Ebait seller for my own knowledge if possible ( I know he was just a broker and does not possess the car) any info that would help, you can email to me. thanks -Chris XBaldwinMotion@sagstone.com
Matt, I know of no ACC code on the cowl tag for the X motor? o No: Four speed, yes, but not the motor? Tom Mooney
Things were weird at the inspection today. After verifying the VIN did not match the motor, the sad owner pulled out a warranty book with yet ANOTHER VIN number on the protect -0- plate !!! (I thought he would have a stroke when I told him that book was probably bought on Ebay and had nothing to do with his car !!) The vehicle was originally blue upon inspection (trim tag says green) and there was no mounting bracket for the four speed console, it was sheet metal screwed in to the floor. It was an X code correct 425 dual quad motor, but not from this car. After giving the owner my report he kind of slumped in a chair in the office. He says he paid 18,000 five years ago. Thats the first bad investment in a muscle car Ive seen in twenty years. Maybe its insured well and he can leave it out somewhere. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<o></o> thanks for all the help.<o></o>
Sad story, but the console really is attached by 1 long screw hidden below the emblem. Does not make the car legit-one key feature would be the overcenter spring throught the firewall. Does anybody know of any 4-speed WIldcats out there? We had a thread on that and TopCat has probably seen the most.
