Can anyone here help decode or tell me where I might go to get a 64 Skylark trim tag decoded ? This is the tag from the fire wall. I am courious to know what Trim 158 is and ACC. W-2P-4FU

Is there anything on these cars or tags that identify interior color, seat styles, engine, and trans.?

    Thanks for any help.

    Thanks Jim.

Is there anyway to tell if the car was orginally 355 or 310 wildcat and the trans type?

The car still has the options you decoded although I thought the seats might not have been orginally black.

    Anyone know the 2P and 4U ?

I am wondering if 2 P was a column shift 3 speed. Group 2 L is the 4 speed code and 2 B was a floor shift 3 speed. It is neither. 2X was a 2 speed auto. Any chance it has a 3 speed manual on the column?

What is the model code on the cowl tag?

Jim, The car is a 300ST 2spd. automatic. Nothing to indicate the car was ever a 3spd. Heres the rest of the tag.

    Style 64-4337 FB2340 Body
    Trim 158 CC Paint
    ACC. W-2P-4FU

    Thanks

Since generally Group 2 has something to do with the type of trans or console etc, my suspicion is that 2P for the 64 model year must have been the code for the ST300 2 speed trans.

The only reference I have to the 4 U code was for the 65 model year and it was a spare tire lock. Since 64 and 65 codes appear to have the potential to have been different it is just a consideration. Any chance your car has such an odd option?

    I show your model could have been either a 310 or a 355. So I would check the 2 letter code. I KL was a 310 and a KP was a 355.

It could be the 2P code ws given in 64 because there was something different about the trans that year. I think 64 was a one year only trans for the 400 series. I do not know if there was also something unquie about a 64 300 series 2 speed.

2P is the radio option, like a deluxe am radio, in 64 there is a manual radio, and a push button "automatic", not a wonder bar just a push button AM

4U is a mirror option, like a day nite rear view mirror or an optional visor mirror

That could be because I know 2T is a power antenna so it fits in with other Group 2 accessories.

I would be puzzled if you are correct about this one. Group 4 items generally relate to accessories on the outside of the vehicle like moldings and outside mirrors.

64 is strange, and things that work for 65 up dont always decode the same for 64, and you could be right on the outside option, at first i thought it was for deluxe rocker trim, but some paper work i have from GM it says mirror option, since its clear the car has a remote driver, it could be an optional passenger side mirror or the day nite or deluxe rearview...just an opinion.........i know the radio option is correct.

The car still has a AM pushbutton radio. It does not have a power antenna but it is spring loaded, retractable and the base part on the fender is a chrome enlongated looking base. It does have a drivers remote mirror and a matching mirror on the passenger side but not remote operated. I have had people ask me why I didnt have the cable and control for the passenger side.
Other options the car has are ironing board style console, under dash lighting, trunk light, padded dash and it orginally had WOM but a previous owner kept them. Try to find replacments.

It doesnt have any special mirrors on the inside that I can tell. No lock on the spare at least not anymore.
Where would I find the KL or KP codes?
Thanks to both of you for the help. Sounds like no one has collected alot of info on the 64 cars?

then thats it, 4u is a passenger mirror............and theres alot of info on 64s collected, some is just fuzzy....

I pretty sure they never made a passenger remote mirror. If it has a passenger side mirror that matches then I would suspect

    4U= passenger side mirror.

I cant see any letters right off. I will have to scrape some paint and grime and see if I can find anything. Outside of the stamping on the blocks, am I correct in saying there is nothing else on the trim tag or VIN that identifies the engine and trans like the later cars?

Are there any websites or places you can direct me that would have info. on 64's?

Your model could have come with either engine. When you say "like later cars" even for example in 71 you cannot tell from the cowl tag whether a car was a GS 350 or a GS 455. The numbers were the same.

Your mirror would only be a remote on the drivers side. I have not seen and do not believe mirrors were installed on the passenger side in 64 or 65. Some people would put the standard Buick mirror there because it fits. I am going to install just the standard mirror on my car because I dont want to ask that same question you get.

You can only tell if you car had a v8 or a v6 but not if it was the 4bbl 355 engine without checking the code on the engine.

You can check the steering column to see if it was a 3 on the tree because it will have 2 levers off the column instead of 1 for the auto. There was not floor shift auto in 64.

Acroos the 64 line passenger mirrors, non-remote, where available, it was an option and is very rare, look at his avatar,it shows it and he states it looks like his drivers mirror, but is manual. I went through some more info i have and it supports the 4U as a passenger mirror.
I looked at a 65 GS conv today, a really really rusty car,it shows the code as well, and the mirror is still on the car. it looks like a remote mirror, but its defintely manual.
The 65 i looked at today is a small badge car,(first run/early cr) and has a line of some of the most bizarre codes ive ever seen. Even the plant code is screwey....

There is a mirror with a part number for 61 - 67 models listed "as required".

The 2P Fisher code is for back-up lights. The 4U Fisher code is for "exterior molding" (4647, 67, 69, 4337, 67, 69) Dont know which molding but probably bright beltline or window surround.
The remote mirror code is 4F. 4 speed trans is 2L and automatic is 2Z. There is no specific radio code because Fisher was not responsible for installing the radio. That was done by Buick (at least in `64). However, there is a code for the rear seat speaker, 2R, which was Fisher`s responsibility. Hope this helps,

Woops, almost forgot....the "W" code is for tinted windshield only. The rest of the glass should be clear.
