There goes my bucket-list dream car...(expletives deleted) That is exactly what I would have wanted, right down to the options load and colour. I wouldn't be surprised if it hits low 6 figures. Either way I'd have to sell my life or my soul to get it, both of which aren't ever going to happen. Absolutely stunning; chances are it'll go to some rich fat old guy who'll look at it once and never really appreciate it's significance as it goes into his Chrysler collection where it'll gather dust and rust holding down a section of floor next to some old Mercury Comet. It will never cruise the Rockies with the top down...in fact, it may never see the light of day. Oh well, at least I can say I've seen the light... ......Sigh....
I agree it will be possible for it to go north off $100K - color combo will be a hit. If I could order one now, I would go with Dusty Rose with Silver grey leather buckets or Silver Birch with Red leather buckets. My guess it will cross the pond
This has to be one of the finest '59 Electra's in existence. I'm actually thinking of going to Indy just to see it in person. I need to drop some parts off at Custom Metal Finishing for re-chroming near there anyway.
I don't think I've yet seen a B-59 cross the 6-digit mark. Will be interesting, but I agree; buckets might have been the push needed to cross that line. Yep, it's gorgeous, but as a B-59 owner, I'm gonna gripe a bit; it's riding like a Jeep. Don't care about factory spec springs/what have you- drop the car 2 inches and it will look even better.
Here is a new 59 with a couple people in it and if you look at the ride height and where the wheel wells hit the wheelcovers the black one is not disproportionately out of line especially if you remove the people from the white one. Many judge the ride height of classic cars using the look of 50 plus year old suspensions today. I know my 67 rides lower now than it did in pictures of it the day my Granddad brought it home and this is the normal case.
I believe I'm looking at them the way they were when 20-25 yrs old, as that's when I was hard into buying/selling this era. But I get your point. Doesn't excuse how it looks, tho.
Yeah, the white car is normal, the black one has some interesting springs in it. Some one was trying to improve the handling by shifting the weight forward. The car should be level between the front wheel rocker and the rear wheel. When these things accelerate that was part of the coolness factor, they'd squat down on their rear haunches and drive the nose up, appearing like you're launching. The post-61 Buicks had a major suspension redesign which started to move things into the more modern and accepted way of doing things, slightly higher in the back and heavier up front.
There goes the proof that I will never, ever get to own one. I'm kicking the bucket list... Now if only my 66 would be as popular...oh well. I hope whoever bought it actually uses it and that it doesn't atrophy as a piece of furniture in someone's warehouse somewhere.
