Hey guys this is my first post on the forums here and why not start it off with a bang?

So here is my '58 Buick Riviera Coupe with 42,662 original miles on her. No interior pics cause it was a bit tight in the garage so those will come later. As you can see she is a bit dirty but has great patina on it.

Carb and motor are free but need some work of course. This will be my first project car ever and it will be with my dad.

It was built in Flint, MI. As the engine plate says its a 1958 Buick Super Riviera Coupe Series 50, 364ci Nailhead V8 4bbl carb, Heater Defroster, Safety Group, Windshield washer and wide angle wipers, Tinted glass.

    Here she is.

The battery is a size 3EEE. Tractor Supply or farm stores carry them.

    Welcome to the board...I have a 58 Roadmaster.:beer

    Warm up the checkbook!

We haven't really decided how far we are going with it. I really just want to getting running and driving for now and cruise with it. I cant afford the chrome repair on this car right now lol.

Restoration on that car is gonna be $$$$$$$$$. But you'll have one of the nicest Buicks ever made when you're done.

Looking at all the corrosion in the engine bay, would this car have seen some salt roads in it's time ?

That battery , sitting in the concrete for very long, will be a VERY dead battery. (If it's not already)

Do like Adam "Smartin" say and get a tractor battery for it.
I went through two reproduction (of the original case) batteries and a generator/regulator before I found that they were only good for looks, not for cranking.

Yes Aussie it has. It was bought in Chicago and brought to N Michigan in the 1970s. Ya that battery is toast been sitting outside for years just seeing what kind it was. Thanks for the info and welcomes.

I hope you can get the engine going, clean it up and get some enjoyment out of it. You can then decide how far you want to go with $$$

. . . one of the many Buicks I really like, a chrome 'n stainless wonder, but this one sure needs a whole lot of TLC+. :eek2:
Good luck to you and your Dad with your project !! :TU:

It does need a lot of work but it's a car that belonged to my dad's friend who has passed away and the price is right (free) so we are going to make it a tribute to him.

Welcome, you got a nice one there, 58's are one of my favorite Buicks. The great thing about getting them running and drivable first is you can enjoy it while you are fixing it up. I had mine out yesterday and it felt great! We look forward to seeing more posts on you progress.

Yes it is. It has no rust either. It has the factory primer showing through the paint. Interior has 3 wear marks on the driver side... um couch I guess? Lol so much seat in these cars. Other than that it's super nice inside.

One of the oldest of automotive myths. Concrete has absolutely no effect on a battery.

i'm sure you're right about that.
I don't think the concrete itself has an effect on the battery.
Perhaps it is the concrete acting as a heat sink drawing heat from the battery , sapping it's strength

It's still dead though maybe not from the concrete but from sitting outside for 10 years lol.
