Your right about putting around town - It might be a good thing I play lob ball on the Cop's team here in town!

This will not be my daily driver that's for darn sure..When it's done, I'll be taking it to the local car club meet and greets and the likes. As for the setup - putting it into my stage 1 auto with 3:64's. I plan on rebuilding my th400, but just a plain rebuild - nothing too drastic.

I will have to get a supplemental vacumm cannister, to work the power brakes - Id rather not switch to manual brakes, but i'll decide later. The duration is the killer there. it's clear what Buick wanted to do though - Go wicked fast down the 1/4 track!

Well, I hav'nt posted in a while but progress has been made!

The Stage 2 short block is assembled, and Rob is degree'ing in the Stage 2 Cam. :beers2:

Anyone have an old Cam card for a stage 2 camshaft lying around? I can't seem to find anything, but i'll keep looking.

Things are coming together nicely, and I should hear the beast running very soon.

    I'll post more pic's soon.

Ill let you know what I find Scott, I'm still learning about this stuff myself.

There is not much reading material anywhere! I have put the feelers out for an old Cam Card, but well see what luck I have.

While the engine is being built, I have two hoods ready to go - or almost ready. I have plans to modify the ram air cleaner base to shift the breather 1" 1/8" on the Edelbrock B4B/Holley 850 to line up with the hood seals. When the engine is home, I'll do a mock-up and modify the base.

I also have the Stage 2 hood ready for paint. Desert Gold with the Stage 2 hood scoop in a Satin Black. I have been at this so long, it's hard to think the end is near.

I have an old magazine that has the some specs. of the cams. I don't know how accurate the artcle is.
It says there was a "street" stg2 cam and was ground on wide LS to be able to use it with unnotched fact. cast pistons. 225/251@.050....455/480....115LS
Also there was also a "race version" stg2 cam. 244/258@.050....510/534....113LS.
Surely somebody on the board knows about these cams.

Stfsocal - it's a repro. only two real steel scoops were made (as I have read on here) Guys, and Toms stage 2 cars have them - the rest are fibreglass repop's.

thanks for the spec's guys - keep it coming!

From Car Review May 1986 it gives most all Stage II part #s.

No cam card but does say 455 Stg II # 1385557

intake duration of 340 degrees exhaust duration of 360 degrees

intake lift at .455 inches exhaust lift at .480 inches

that is all it says about the cam :Do No: 73RIV

The fiberglass repos that KB made were from molds made from the original Buick made metal Stage2 scoop that Dennis Manner supplied (the whole hood assembly) for the Reynolds/KB car.
The KB repos seem to be the closest in looks and size ( i have a nos kb also)

There were only two original Buick stg2 scoops made...the one on Tom Rix's and the one on the Reynolds car.

Well the Compression calc's are in!

With the NOS 455 Block, Stage 2 forged pistons, and the Stage 2 iron heads - it's at 11.6:1 :3gears:

Any octane recommendations for this beast?

    Octane?

    A lot.....:eek2:

I would say 100-105, so race gas is in your future.

But, it will be worth it.:beers2:

I have the Stage 2 pistons and cam in my original engine for my GSX and with the original stock Stage 1 heads the car was a lot of fun to drive. I had to run race and pump gas together so it would not ping. The cam is very lumpy reminds me of the old KB Window Rattler. I never got a chance to put sticky tires on the car at the track but with the 364 gears the car went almost 110 mph. I will have my X at the BPG Nat. with a steel Stage 2 scoop the I hand made, if I could get the right demsions I think I can make it better it is the one on the car in my avitar. I am going to make another one for a friend who has a all steel S2 race car.:3gears:

Awesome! Keep the stories coming fella's :Brow:

I have read all the posts about the other Iron Stage 2 motors that were built, so I know what the HP and Torque numbers will be around, but nothing beats hearing whats it's like to drive one of these cars!

I'll post a few more pictures Monday of the progress.

I had the Holley 850 rebuilt, so it's ready to sit atop the B4B. everything is coming together very well so far.

It will be nice to see the looks on the faces of the Car club gang when I stop in for a cruise night. ...:3gears:

My car does have power brakes it makes it a little on the hairy side at times I just got use to mashing the pedal. The cam is awsome, my car is a stick so on the street it was a lot of fun. It could fry the tires hard in 3 gears before it hooked in 4th.:3gears:

No that was 22 years ago I took the original drive line out of the car and now it has a Stage 2 alum. head engine in it, and that one is getting trans planted this comming weekend. I would like to kick my self because 30 years ago my friend and I had 2 sets of Iron Stage 2 heads, I sure wish I had one set.

Well guys, it's assembled! A few more pictures to post showing the progress. Oil pump has been assembled, packed with lube. I had the boosterplate from T/A put in to help the gears, with the Adjustable oil pressure regulator. The pump was also shimmed to get the proper clearance.

Rob has already primed the motor to check for leaks, so it's almost ready to fire!

A TA fibre intake gasket is being used to cover the center heat riser in the heads (sealed inside the head) so it won't atop the B4B.

Stage 2 Headers from TA, a new Balancer and it's ready to go!

Those polished Kenne Bell Buick Aluminum covers do look sweet (Thanks Tom!) I also bought a polished stainless steel engine bolt kit, just to shine it up a little more!
