now... you maybe able to drive the water pump in reverse (not the fan though). I don't rember if the fins are directional (angled) or if they come streight out from the center/ if they're streight from the center and the input is from the middle of the impeller then you can run it in reverse
    w/o a problem

(that type of pump can run in either direction asuming the input is basicly in the center of the pump and the output is on the outside of the flutes).

    IT WORKS

well it works!!!!! I need to move the idle pulley between the water pump and the power steering, closer to the water pump for a little more wrap around the water pump. Other than that it seemed pretty stable up to 6000 RPM. Time will tell for now.
The spring loaded idle pulley I agree will be an improvement, so a little more R & D is in store.

you have a new style altenator, would a new style altenator with steel serpentine belt pully work? or does yours have some kind of offset?

that is a stock alternator, in the stock position. All the pulleys I manufacture.

What are the advantages of going to this type of setup?

    Thanks

Once I do more testing, I will be selling the entire set-up as a complete kit. I still need to work out the price.

Just a thought rob. but could this same peice be used on a 350. I think I would like a setup like this in the future.

I don't see why not, but I am not 100% sure. I would have to look into it.

    Looookeeeeng Goood Rob.
Now you'll have to do the driving around for a week test.
What will be nice is not having to worry about overtightened belts and adjustments.
And only one belt to replace every time you throw one at the track.

Is there any advantage to this type of setup, or is it just cosmetic? I really want to know (not trying to imply anything).

    Steve,
Technically, I really don't know,:Do No: but it should keep the belt on, plus it looks really cool.:bglasses:

Nothing wrong with looking good! I Just wondered. Maybe someone else knows.

That is very nice. Though I like the idea of separate belts (in case one breaks), this sure updates the look of the engine bay.

Plus, a spring-loaded tension pully would make changing the belt a breeze!

I think you've sold me on the idea for when the times comes.

In my guess, I'd say it would free up a couple of hp while tidying up the engine bay. :TU:

    Buickwagon Wagon's Rule!

The main benefit to the serpentine belt is reduced slippage. Because you have a minimum of ~6 smaller v-grooves versus the single large v-groove of the traditional belt, you have more surface area for contact between the belt and the pulley. Therefore, you get increased "traction" and less slippage.

Another benefit would be the basically infinite number of combinations of pulley diameters, all while using the same belt. This allows you to mix and match pulleys to taylor the speeds and horsepower draw from various components. So there's your HP benefit.

As mentioned above, you only have to carry one belt - not three!

Oh yeah, it looks cool too! Really updates the look of the "old" Buicks.
