    Romy,
Would it be any trouble for you to check and see if that Electra is still there and how much they want for it? Also, if all is well, I'd make it worth your while to pull it for me and maybe meet my uncle in Sacramento (he works there every day) to pick it up. :beer He and my Aunt make yearly trips to Houston and they just got back from the one this year, so it'd be a while before i got it, but I'd save a ton on shipping!!

    Dru,
That would have worked out if he'd have been driving, but no biggie. :TU: I suppose I'll see if the one you've found is in better condition that the one Romy located...IF it's still even there. Otherwise, yeah, I'm sure shipping would be STUPID expensive...of course if you were willing to hang on to it for a bit, I've always wanted to take trip out to Florida :beers2:

Guys, there is NOTHING like our cars (in parts & junk yards) that I have been able to find in my area. I've seen a couple Wildcats for sale, but out of my price range. Hell, here's one now: Craigslist

I wouldn't have a problem with that if you decided its better then the other one. We'll see how it looks and like you said IF its still there.

it appears you need the drivers side????

Hey Charles and/or anyone else who can help,
I have a quick question regarding some vacuum hoses on the fan on the firewall (passenger side) I know I need a manual to avoid these dumb questions and I'm working on it.. But Is there anyway you can tell me or take a pic of where those 4 vacuum hoses go? They got disconnected when we pulled the engine out and I can't for the life of me figure out where they hook back up. I'll take a pic of what I'm talking about when I get a chance.

    Thanks in advance,
    -Dru

    • Just a few things I thought I'd point out. 70 pistons are not the same comp. distance as the 75. They will be about .020" more down in the hole.
The 310 cam is a single pattern cam. The 70 heads need a dual pattern like the 290/94 mentioned.
The Edelbrock 750 afb clone carb runs lean under load (check out some past posts). Go with a 850 Edelbrock (Qjet replacement no longer made) if you can find one or a factory 800cfm 455 carb. If using the 290/94 cam the carb will have to be set up for it.
Pushrod length will be determined last. As you use a different cam/deck the block you may need to get different legth pushrods for the proper lifter preload recommended by the manufacturer.
Check the piston to valve clearance if the deck/heads are cut.

Its cool to see so much discussion about the 69-70 cars. I really enjoyed mine before my stinking garage fell on it from snow load (something you guys in Florida and Texas probably don't need to worry about). Romy indicated he was looking for quarter panels. Doesn't J.C.Whitney sell quarter panel patches for the 69-70 LeSabres and equivalent? They used to. I put a set on my 69 back in the early 90s. Thinner steel than the original stuff, but hey...

I honestly don't know of any reputable machine shops in my area tho...:Do No:

If you are in NW Houston, try G&G Performance in Tomball 281-351-6202. Ask for Chris. Very friendly and does great work. Do you ever go to the Nifty Fifties car show in Spring on spring-Cypress & Champions? Always have a big turnout every Saturday night and had 5 Buicks I counted. If you go, look for a board member's car there. His name is David and he has a 1969 Skylark with a stage 2 455 built by G&G. Also, are you a member of the Houston Buick Club? Worth joining too.

Sorry guys, I've been out the past couple days and didn't have a chance to drop in on the thread.

Dru, Thanks again (as usual)!! We'll see what Romy finds out.

Scott, Battery is on the pass side of the LeSabre as well...lots-'o-rot on mine...

Dru, I don't have any pics of mine before it was all torn down, but I'll look tomorrow and see if it's still hooked up and take a pic if so. If not, I'll look through my manuals & CDs and see if I can find an illustration for you.

Ray, Good info to have, thank you. I'll definitely go with the 70 pistons then. I won't lie, "The 310 cam is a single pattern cam. The 70 heads need a dual pattern like the 290/94 mentioned." is not something I quite understand. I'll check into a better carb. I still have my old Q-jet that came on the car originally...needs rebuild pretty bad tho. I'll prolly get adjustable pushrods just to make things easier. 10-4 on the clearances after decking.

Nick, sorry to hear about your car man!! That really sucks!! Yeah, snowfall around here is like...well, lets just say everyone thinks they're at a magic show...

Steven, I was actually at Saturday's show! I decided to take the girls out and head to the show afterwards. My wife always gets a kick out of using our "Baby Bjorn" thing too, & it's pretty funny when she says "I'm gonna grab the Baby Bjorn!" with big eyes and a smile. LOL Yeah, I go every so often and that night I saw more Buicks there at one time than I had any other. (I'll post pics of them all tomorrow.) I know the HBC got together there one time, but I was unable to attend because of work. There were some really good looking Buicks there that night including a '67 GS, a '56 Special, a '70 GS 455, a '57 Special, a '76(?) Skylark, and a '56 Special Wagon. Didn't see David's that night tho, maybe we left too early. I have seen David's Skylark there many times and have checked it out just as many, but I never knew he was on this board (or in HBC) until recently when I happened across one of his posts. That is a really nice ride!!

Also, I have been a member of HBC for the past 2 years, but sadly have yet to attend any gatherings. It never fails that I'll plan on it and then something more dire comes up at the last minute. I take it you are a member, no? I need to make it out and pay this years dues tho, so HOPEFULLY I'll be at the next meet, and HOPEFULLY it'll be in the LeSabre!! They're a great group of guys and I was able to meet Robert (Pres.) at the Chicken Oil Rod Run in Bryan. Really cool guy and couldn't have been nicer.

Thanks for the tip on the machine shop. I will definitely be in contact with them. Do they know you by name? Not trying to get a discount, but I'd like to let 'em know who reccommended their services. Hell, they might remember and hook you up next time you're in, never know!

I haven't worked with them personally, but I heard good things about them. Their website shows more ls motor work but they have been doing BBB for a while and have all the proper tools and knowledge. David's engine was done by them and I believe his brother-in-law's was done there too. PLus, they are not far from you. I am a member of HBC and the next event will be in a few weeks at an indoor go-kart track. August is too hot for outside stuff. Keep in touch. Also, are you going to reuse the alternator brackets from your engine. I am looking for one for my 455.

Dru, I'm hoping that this diagram has the vacuum lines you're looking for. Fair warning, the picture's pretty BIG...I was gonna reduce the size/quality, but I wanted to make sure you could see all the needed details on the page.

EDIT:: Crap...Pic's too big. PM me your email address and I'll send it there.

See the Red and Gree lines running to that thing attached to your wheel well? What is that?? I don't even have one of those, nor does it look like there was ever one there. I don't even have the bolts sticking out of the wheel well like you do. I'm such a newb

    Thanks again Scott!

:beers2:Thanks Scott and Charles for all your help:TU:.

The Diagram was perfect charles thank you for that. The lines were for the A/ C Recirculation control or something, they hooked up right under where they came out, it was just kind of hidden to where i couldn't see it. I'll take a picture tomorrow and show you what I mean.. Probably the same with yours Scott. I also put the windsheild wiper motor back on today its looking pretty good now. Still waiting for my power steering pump to arrive

Plan is it goes to the body shop beggining of september, if everything goes right. :dollar:

Oh and I think I found a front emblem for my bumber in a junk yard, waiting for verification... What a find if I did.

    Thanks again Guys!

Steven, I will definitely have to come out to the next meet then, it's not far from me at all! I dunno if I'll do any racing, but it should be fun either way. I'll check out G&G's website too and get an idea of what they do. I am not far from Tomball either, maybe 15-20 min. I am actually in the middle of reconditioning/restoring all the different bracketry and things. I will shoot you a pic when I'm done and see what you think and you can make me an offer. I prolly won't get to finish until maybe this weekend tho, just so you know.

    Hey Charles,
I remember we were talking about tail lights a few pages back. We bought A drivers side Tail Light for my lesabre a few years ago and found out that it was a Later production so it doesn't match up with mine. Do you have any idea when your Lesabre was produced ( I think after January of 1970 is the Tail Light I have)

Anyways I thought I would let you know before I throw it on Parts for Sale to see if you wanted it. I'll take a picture of it later. If you look on your tail light it should say "Guide 45(or 46) SAE STIAR 70-1" If It says 46 then the tail light I have will work for you. I payed $45 For it so If you want it make me an offer.

Thanks anyway Dru, but mine says "45" also. And I couldn't find a crack anywhere...not that that's something to complain about, but I could've sworn one had a crack. Oh well, maybe it was the Skylark that had the crack...I dunno.

Steven, If you want that alternator bracket in the condition it's in (before I clean it all up and repaint it), let me know. If nothing else, I'll bring it to the HBC meet on the 15th. Are you talking about the upper or the lower bracket (or both)? Also, just to make sure we're talking about the same bracket, I'm including a picture (took it during disassembly) of the ones I am not using.

    Go Buick Go Woot!

Wow, I missed a lot. I hadn't been getting any thread reply emails so I assumed nothing much was happening...guess not!:Dou:

I won't have time for another week at least to go to the junkyard and check anything because I have tests coming up I need to study for. However, there is an Electra some dude is parting in the San Jose area which he wants $99 a part for. Here's the link for it. The car is honestly in nice shape, but whatever, you know how it goes.

Also, do you know about Wheat Belt Buick? They're much closer to you and their prices seem fair.

If you'd like, I'll email the dude in San Jose about the core support and can go check it out in a little over a week from now.
