Gary Sorry to hear the news. My son still does not want to take a ride in SCAT but his dad does! I should be getting paid for a side job that the wife does not know about, which means money she does not know about so I maybe able to help build the next SCAT. Let me look at my parts wish list.
Thanks Johnno and DR Dr,the offer for the ride is still out there, but I've got a "little" stronger bullet to put in 'er,still up to it???
Gary you mentioned only a few drops of oil. Where did the oil go? I could only wish for 900 plus runs on my motor. :eek2: And my buddys say that buicks wont stay together.
Bad news about the motor. Hope you can get the car up and running again. Also, you have a nice statistic record going for you. I've been at a few of those wins I guess. You should consider putting a NYY symbol on the side of the car for the dynasty of wins. Good luck with Scat.
Terrance Most of the oil was contained in the pan,it appears #3 rod had enough ,made a small hole in the pan near the block, hence only a small amount of oil.Alum rods don't do as much damage as a steel rod when they let go. gary
Sorry for your loss Gary. Old Thumper's ticker finally let go......RIP.... Good luck with your next build. Hopefully some of old Thumper might live again............... Lon
.....looked at another way, thats nearly 250 MILES !!! of constant, serious full-throttle punishment that motor went through Was it always a full race-only bullet ?? did it ever see any street prowling duties ??
Alan Yeah, believe it or not, when I had another motor in Scat, mid 1990's, and this one was on the stand,we decided to put it in my sons street car for a while. He ran it 2 summers plus at the track.thru the exhaust and in a 3800# GS it went 11.5's,surprisingly streetable with the ol KB mark IV cam. gary
So its got street miles AND almost 1000 passes? Not bad. Sorry it went, but at least you can go bigger this time
Carnage,oh the humanity! Just pulled it out, does'nt look repairable :Brow: #3 rod wanted to quit. No holes in the block or pan though,no wonder there was only a few drips of oil.
I know a guy that did that! He wedged the 2 pistons to the cylinders, hose clamped a pop can around the rod journal oil holes, and limped the car 150 miles to get home.
Just checked the Iron Stage 2 heads, they're fine,no damage.Roller rockers OK too.only 1 push rod damaged???thank goodness the rod broke at the bottom and the heads never got touched.  :beer "Scat "will ride again shortly. gary
