    455- how long. CARNAGE AFTERMATH

Well, ol relible finally expired,"Scats" motor gave up last night in the 3rd round of eliminations at Thompson.Sounded a little funny in the burn out box and at the top of 1st gear at the change she coughed and quit, only a few drops of oil, thankfully, and got towed back to the pits.
This motor was in "Thumper" many years ago before Scat and had 946 runs on it!!I guess thats not tooo bad.I think longevity was due to the build combo, everything light, put in BME 7" aluminum rods and real light venolia pistons, hyd KB mark 4 cam, easy on the valve train,no girdle or cement, also keeping the rpms down, shifted at 6000 and ran the big end at 6300.it ran a best of 10 teens at BG a few years ago at over 3400 lbs.
RIP mighty warrior ,we'll miss ye.

We've got a couple extra bullets layin around ,one will soon rest between the wells.
Thumper was my old factory Iron Stage 2 car, maybe I have an old pic laying around somewhere,1970 GS that got destroyed in a towing accident in 91,put the motor in Scat for a while, then put a stonger one in for a few years, when I got the Skyhawk I put that mill in the hawk and the old one back in Scat.Hope theres no damage to the iron stage 2's!!!Dana,thanks for the nice pic.
Thanks for all the kind comments,we'll be back running soon, see you all at the BPG.

Sorry to hear about that, i am sure that it will be no time before "SCAT" is back out on the track and running the same as always.
So, does this mean that you are going to have to race the Hawk for a little while now??? Hopefully, within the next couple weeks i should be able to get out there with you guys in my car again.
    Talk to you soon.

Gary, what did happen to "Thumper"? Did a rod come loose, crankshaft break, are there any compound fractures you know. Keep us posted your beast is a real crowd pleaser at the track :3gears: :TU: AL.

    Sorry to hear Gary...

Mine dont last near that long because I'm kinda rough on em..Hope the heads are ok..its good to see a real set of Stage 2's out there. What production run are they from..early or late? The racecar "Thumper"..is it still around or was it the 70 that was damaged in the towing accident...I know I have many pics from the Nats of it...I have to find em and scan em...good luck and i hope your next engine lasts longer...fish

Unfortunately Thumper was totaled in 91,it was a 70 GS,but the lady that ran the stop sign had great insurance and we were well compensated and got to keep the car, parts of Thumper live in many other cars in the area, from fiberglass parts to rear end, body panels, etc.I think the stage2 heads are from the later production run.
Al,looks like a rod ,but till I open it up not quite sure.
