I think that’s where you’re confused, I thought of this in your previous threads, but wasn’t sure.
The digital readout on your timing light bring that back to zero.
Now point the light to your timing tab, THAT shows your initial advance.
Your timing light digital readout IS NOT your ignition timing.

Thank you. I really wish there was a way to post videos. I’ve been using the same O marker the entire time I’ve been giving you guys timing numbers. All that I been doing to change it was adding throttle and seeing where the light meets at that rpm on the O marker again.

:D:D OK. It is very difficult to teach something if you have a reading comprehension problem. How can I possibly make you understand a topic if you can't read and understand. If I lived near you, I think I would just come over and show you.

The total advance you see is the sum of initial advance, mechanical advance, and vacuum advance.

You have a 1111335 distributor. That distributor has up to 34* of mechanical advance built in. Mechanical advance is controlled by 2 weights and 2 springs. The weights move out against spring tension, and advance the timing. Spring tension determines WHEN the weights reach full travel, and full advance.

So lets review this thread. You have about 9* of initial advance. When your mechanical advance is maxxed out, that adds up to 34*. 9*+ 34* = 43*. The vacuum advance adds to that. 9 + 34 + 25 = 68*. That's only a potential. When you are reading 54*, there is still mechanical advance left to go.

Here is the bottom line. You cannot run 9* initial with that 1111335 distributor. There is too much mechanical advance in it. You have to run 0* (TDC) initial.

Turn the dial on your timing light down to zero and leave it there. Disconnect the vacuum advance and plug the line. Start the engine and turn the idle down as low as it will go without stalling. Set the initial advance to 0 on the timing tab. (You don't need the advance feature on the light to do this). Once you have done that, hook the vacuum advance back up. The idle speed should increase. Set the idle at an acceptable level and drive the car.

You have to put vids on You Tube, then paste the link here.

The advance feature on the timing light is meant to move the timing mark. You move the dial and move the mark to zero on the tab. You then read your advance off the timing light dial or display.

The problem is you don't understand what is happening inside that distributor. Until you do, you will just get more and more confused.

I been using the 0 mark for all of the readings I’ve given you.
My cover and the light I’ve been using.

So then I’ve been using it incorrectly because I’ve been hooking it up to the car starting. I’ve been pressing advance/rpm then pressing the up button till I see where it is lining up with zero. Which was giving me the previous numbers I’ve been giving you. With the vacuum advance hooked up as well as with it disconnected.

I don't see the mark on the balancer anywhere near the 0. I don't see it at all.

Trust me I understand that more than you know. I know for you guys I’m driving you around in circles. Unfortunately for me I do have disability when it comes to reading, writing, or comprehension . I hope that you have seen the efforts I’m taking to try and do this. Even with explaining to you in previous posts that I have went as far as to contact Jim (no issues or fault on him) the “guy” as well as posted in the bench as you recommended to have someone with experience do this. That why I try to leave on everyone one of my posts the gratitude I have for you guys having to dumb it down. I’m sure it’s frustrating. As well I do appreciate and would have paid what every you would have wanted if we lived closer.
I get back to it on Sunday I really want to figure this out and start enjoying my car.
Again thank all you guys for helping me out here.

Again I just paid, paid, paid. Now I need to start clean so I know what I have going on and how to adjust if need be.

Larry, maybe it would be easier if someone made a short video of doing it the proper way. You could also link to it in your stickied post.

Or if someone lives close to the original poster, they could show him in person.

Now that I can do and would tremendously help. I usually look for YouTube videos and tutorials to help me with things I’m unfamiliar with or do not know how to do. I did look for Buick videos and other Chevy ones figuring timing is the same across the board. I found some but nothing that showed the entire process particularly Buick

my 2 cents: I use correcting fluid on the balancer mark. It has a nice little brush and seems to
fluoresce when the light hits it.

?? I hope I'm reading that wrong! There is a groove cut in the balancer ring - that is the mark.

Ahhh they put the white marker on either side of the factory groove, that’s fine.

Here is what I was able to come up with pics for my distributor as well as my vacuum canister.
