Some really cool pics of mine and Dave's Buicks at the 2019 Kernersville cars and coffee event. https://www.flickr.com/photos/halmcgee/albums/72157711202218436
Its been a bit since I have posted about things going on with the Retro GS. Thanks to a fellow member I was able to get a great deal on a set of 3:31 gears. It will be great to get the 4:56 gears out of that rear so I can enjoy taking this thing to local cruise ins. Here is a idea of what I have been dealing with. 70 MPH on the highway is a bit rough. Current Gears 3:31 Gears
Ryan, the only word I can think of to describe this car is RAD! You could tell the photographer at C&C obviously thought so too! There isnt a crowd of cars that thing wouldn't stand out in.
I have considered putting a 200R4 in for that overdrive gear but unsure what it would cost me. My engine is not crazy horsepower and I have no plans on racing it. I did find that it is very easy to get an adaptor for the quick silver shifter in my car. Thank you Shawn. I think the car is RAD also. Jim, Definitely looking forward to meeting you as well. I really hope I can make the event.
I bought an unmolested '87 BRF 2004r trans off the Turbo Buick site for $450, with the D-5 convertor. You will appreciate blowing by or at least keeping up with the modern "fast lane" cars without your engine telling to tell you to SHIFT! You may just have an extra detent position for the 4th gear on the shifter. My column shifter just added the 4th gear detent to the mix, just under 1st. So I have D, 2nd, 1st, and below 1st.
Booked all my rooms but have not officially signed up yet. Glad I got my rooms early they are all sold out or they are unreal high cost now.
I designed two poster boards to put with my car at shows. I think they turned out nice for my first attempt. Had them printed 20x30
Looks great, Ryan! I like that you got the vintage pics in there, too. Let's people know a little about it's history and that it is a "survivor" from the 70s.
Maybe a groovier font? Cool details and who can say "No" to Playmates? : P https://www.google.com/search?q=psy...HTBnD2UQ_AUoAXoECA4QAQ&biw=1024&bih=672&dpr=2
I really want people to understand this is a "survivor". You cant imagine how many people ask me if I painted the car and they are shocked when I tell them it was painted in 1977. That would be a cool idea to do a wild font. Maybe next time. Yes, I still have the 4:56 gears in it but thanks to a member here on the board I now have some 3:31 gears to put into the rear. Dave and I are going to pull the rear axle and the entire front suspension out at some point soon to redo everything. I am hopeful that when we open the rear up that the posi is a 3 series with a spacer. That would save me from having to buy a new posi unit if that is the case. Thank you Pat Thank you Joe. You know I got that idea from you so I think your a little biased lol
Thank you Dennis. I have had a LOT of help from Dave Tumas. I also have to thank other members for helping me find vintage items and hard to find parts for it at affordable prices. I am just enjoying this car. Its just a blast to take out and watch peoples reaction. Guess who got invited to the 2020 MCACN show ? Look for it to be displayed in the front lobby
